All arias were recorded for this album for the recorded for the first time ever. What the works also have in common is that their texts come from probably the most sought-after librettist of the 18th century: Pietro Metastasio.

Philippe Jaroussky tells us about Metastasio: “Some of his musical dramas were used by more than 90 different composers and developed into a rite of passage for anyone who wanted to prove himself and stand out from his predecessors by his originality.” From this seemingly inexhaustible Selection, Jaroussky contrasts, for example, virtuoso sturmarias by Andrea Bernasconi and Niccolò Jommelli with the internalized style of Christoph Willibald Gluck. The countertenor also included a work known from Vivaldi’s pen in his selection the countertenor also included a well-known work from Vivaldi’s pen in his selection: the aria “Gelido in ogni vena” from the opera Siroe – but here composed by Giovanni Battista Ferrandini. The singer is accompanied by the ensemble Le Concert de la Loge on period instruments under the direction of its founder Julien Chauvin.
