Countertenor Philippe Jaroussky, soprano Emöke Baráth, and a cast of other top-notch singers perform works by Josef Mysliveček on the album Il Boemo. Award-winning Czech director Petr Václav gathered the artists for his 2022 feature film Il Boemo (The Bohemian), which revolves around the life of the once-famous, now almost forgotten Bohemian composer. The album releases the soundtrack to the film.

born in Prague in 1737, Josef Mysliveček soon rose to become an artist who was in hot demand in the musical capitals of the time, such as Venice, Naples and Munich. He received his nickname Il Boemo from the Italians, who could not pronounce his name.

As a friend and patron of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, he passed on his compositional knowledge to the prodigy, who was 20 years younger. Mysliveček composed more than two dozen operas, from which eight arias are presented on this album. A major focus is his opera L’olimpiade, premiered in Naples in honor of the name day of King Carlos III of Spain in 1778. Philippe Jaroussky and Emöke Baráth not only lend their voices to the film, but also embody opera characters in it. They and other soloists will be accompanied by the renowned original sound ensemble Collegium 1704 conducted by Václav Luks.
