How do you follow a monumental achievement like the 1972 masterpiece Exile on Main Street? The short answer is: you can’t. And so if the Stones—who’d been on a massive roll of success from 1968’s Beggars Banquet through Exile finally made a less than acclaimed album, who could blame them? Hence the tale of 1973’s Goats Head Soup, the album forever blamed for the Stones inevitable stumble. While it’s true that nothing on Goats Head Soup is on the level of Exile’s many highlights (“Rip This Joint,” “Tumbling Dice,” “Sweet Virginia”), the album does have the Stones’ finest near-ballad—the hit single “Angie”—and “Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker),” with Billy Preston on organ, and whose lyrics suddenly have fresh relevance (“The police in New York City/ They chased a boy right through the park/ And in a case of mistaken identity/ The put a bullet through his heart”). After that, however, it’s a mixed bag. While they still can’t be mistaken for top drawer Stones, much of the rest of the album—tunes like “Hide Your Love,” “Winter” and “Can You Hear The Music”—is in retrospect not quite the filler they appeared to be in the wake of Exile.

“Get Yer Ya-Ya’s Out! The Rolling Stones in Concert” holds the distinction of being the first live album by any artist to have reached #1 on the UK charts. Recorded Madison Square Garden in New York City on November 27 and 28, 1969, Ya-Ya’s is considered the Stones finest live album. This three-disc remastered Ya-Ya’s includes the original in all its gritty glory. Disc Two is a five-song EP from the same shows, with acoustic performances – ‘Prodigal Son’ and ‘You Gotta Move’ – from Richards and Jagger. The third disc is an unexpected treat: blistering sets by openers B.B. King plus Ike and Tina Turner (doing an outrageously steamy take on Otis Redding’s ‘I’ve Been Loving You Too Long’)”.

Yes, the grandfathers of Rock N Roll are still cool and determined to maintain their reputation. An enormous discography doesn’t stop the Stones from delighting their fans with some of their legendary live performances. From The Vault − San Jose 1999 is the last episode in their series of concerts during their 1999 No Security tour throughout the United States and Europe. Well accustomed to filling out stadiums, the band wanted this tour to target more reasonably sized venues: 15,000 people nonetheless… It had been almost 25 years since the English band had stopped in San Jose, as evidenced by the audience’s reaction. The crowd was boiling with excitement! Here, the Stones offer a large selection of their hit songs (Jumpin’ Jack Flash, Honky Tonk Woman, Paint It Black, It’s Only Rock ‘n’ Roll (But I Like It), Start Me Up, Brown Sugar, Sympathy for the Devil…), ranging from the 1960s to 1997 with Saint Of Me and Out Of Control from the album Bridges To Babylon. A tremendous batch!  – Clara Bismuth

Regarded as one of the greatest albums in Rock ‘n’ Roll history and one of the most defining of the Stones’ catalogue.

Upon its release more than three decades ago, ‘Exile on Main Street’ innovatively wove varying musical genres, instruments and even artists into a compelling rhythmic masterpiece. This new compilation features 10 tracks originally recorded during the Exile era and only recently discovered while working on the reissue project. The unearthed tracks which include such titles as ‘Plundered My Soul’, ‘Dancing in the Light’, ‘Following the River’ and ‘Pass The Wine’ have undergone a unique evolution, while staying true to the essence of the 1972 album. Alternate versions of ‘Soul Survivor’ and ‘Loving Cup’ also are a part of the Exile bonus materials.

Half Speed ReMasters HiRes Re-Issue: Dirty Work is the Rolling Stones’ 18th British and 20th American studio album. It was released on 24 March 1986 on the Rolling Stones label by CBS Records. Produced by Steve Lillywhite, the album was recorded during a period when relations between Mick Jagger and Keith Richards soured considerably, according to Richards’ autobiography Life.

The album was recorded during a time of turmoil for the band, as the two principal songwriters, Richards and Jagger, had been feuding over the band’s direction for most of the 1980s. Almost all of the band members had spent the previous several years working on solo albums or side projects. Other band members, including guitarist Ronnie Wood, drummer Charlie Watts, and bassist Bill Wyman, were often absent from the studio during recording sessions; it was rare that all five principal members were together at the same time.

Half Speed ReMasters HiRes Re-Issue: Bridges to Babylon is the 21st British and 23rd American studio album by British rock band the Rolling Stones, released by Virgin Records on 29 September 1997.

Unlike the prior several albums, which the production and songwriting team of vocalist Mick Jagger and guitarist Keith Richards had co-produced alongside a single producer, the group brought in an eclectic mix of superstar producers, including the Dust Brothers, Don Was, and Rob Fraboni among others. Similarly, a wide array of guest musicians appeared on each of the tracks alongside band members Jagger, Richards, Ronnie Wood (guitar) and Charlie Watts (drums). The sprawling album features a wide range of genres, including the Stones-standard blues rock, sample-laden hip hop and rap. The band was once again not on speaking terms during the recording of the album, with Jagger and Richards each recording their parts separately and rarely appearing in the studio together. They had, however, repaired their relationship well enough to embark on a wildly successful tour to support the album.

American blues has long been part of the Stones’ DNA, and Blue & Lonesome is a greasy, grimy tribute to their blues heroes. Deep cuts by the likes of Jimmy Reed, Howlin’ Wolf, Magic Sam, and Little Walter are delivered with soulful reverence, showing that even rock ‘n’ roll legends are still just music fans at heart.

Half Speed ReMasters HiRes Re-Issue: Black and Blue is the 13th British and 15th American studio album by the band the Rolling Stones, released in 1976.

This album was the first recorded after former guitarist Mick Taylor quit in December 1974. As he had done the previous time the Stones were between second guitarists in 1968, Keith Richards recorded the bulk of the guitar parts himself, though the album recording sessions also served as an audition for Taylor’s replacement. Richards said of the album that it was used for “rehearsing guitar players, that’s what that one was about.” Numerous guitarists showed up to auditions; those who appeared on the album were Wayne Perkins, Harvey Mandel, and Ronnie Wood. Wood had previously contributed to the title track from the It’s Only Rock ‘n Roll album, and would become a full-time member of the Stones in 1976. The Stones rhythm section of bassist Bill Wyman and drummer Charlie Watts appear on nearly all tracks, and frequent collaborators Nicky Hopkins and Billy Preston play keyboards on most of the album, with percussionist Ollie E. Brown also appearing on about half of the tracks. The album was the second to be self-produced, credited to “The Glimmer Twins”, a pseudonym used by Jagger and Richards for their roles as producers.

Beggars Banquet has long been a landmark album in The Rolling Stones’ history, signalling the beginning of what is considered their most prolific album era as well as indicating the end of the original line up’s work together.

Recorded between March and July of 1968 at Olympic Sound Studios in London, mixed at Sunset Sound in Los Angeles, Beggars Banquet was the first Stones album produced by Jimmy Miller, and marks the start of what is considered their most prolific album era. Opening with the iconic hit “Sympathy For The Devil,” the album features many of The Stones’ most memorable tracks, including “Street Fighting Man,” “No Expectations,” and “Parachute Woman”. Beggars Banquet (50th Anniversary Edition) is housed in an overwrap of the “inoffensive” wedding invitation art, which was initially issued as a replacement cover when the original intended album art was rejected. The landmark album has been newly mastered by Grammy Award winning engineer Bob Ludwig and will be available on all formats.
