The iconic duo’s acclaimed production, first presented at the Royal Opera House in 2016 over four sold-out shows, was reprised at the venue for a further four nights in July 2018 as part of their ‘Super’ tour. Staged by long-term PSB designer Es Devlin and choreographer/director Lynne Page, the show was filmed by director David Barnard. Filmed on 27 and 28 July 2018, the full-length film on DVD and Blu-ray is accompanied by two CDs of the complete audio of the live show plus a bonus feature of PSB live at Rock in Rio, which was recorded on 17 September 2017 at the Brazilian festival.
The ‘Inner Sanctum’ production won rave reviews for a musical and visual extravaganza which brought lasers, dazzling choreography and immersive visuals and stage design to the ornate surroundings of the Royal Opera House for an electrifying show. The set-list featured contemporary PSB material from their last two albums ‘Super’ and ‘Electric’ mixed with many PSB’s classic hits from their peerless back catalogue including ‘Love comes quickly’, ‘West End Girls’, ‘It’s A Sin’, ‘Go West’ and ‘Always On My Mind’.

Hotspot is Neil and Chris’ 14th studio album and is the follow-up to 2016’s Super. It was recorded mostly in Berlin’s legendary Hansa Studios and like the previous two albums it has been produced by Stuart Price. The Pet Shop Boys have stated that this is the last instalment of a trilogy of Price-produced albums, which suggests they’ll use someone else, next time.

Previously only available on VHS in 1995, this is the first time that fans will be able to experience this classic concert on DVD and listen to the audio on CDs. The show was filmed by Brazilian director Roberto Berliner with a local TV crew in December 1994 in front of a wildly enthusiastic Rio audience on PSB’s first visit to Brazil.
The set list includes classic hits including ‘West End girls’, ‘Suburbia’, ‘Being Boring’, ‘Go West’, ‘Rent’ and ‘Always on my mind’, as well as surprising juxtapositions of PSB songs and contemporary hits including ‘One in a million’/‘Mr Vain’ and ‘Left To My Own Devices’/‘Rhythm of the night’. Legendary British cultural treasures the Pet Shop Boys have released a new single, the creeping orchestral cut ‘Cricket Wife’.
Far removed from their days as scrappy young upstarts, Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe are in solid legacy mode, seeing how far they can push their signature sound without fully erasing what makes them so indelible in the first place. ‘Cricket Wife’ comes with a full string and horn arrangement as if the boys abandoned their synthesisers and instead found new inspiration in scores of sheet music.
