Although it is their sixth studio album,Dark Passion Play marks the beginning of a new era for Finnish symphonic metal masters Nightwish. With new vocalist Annette Olzon onboard, Nightwish returns with their most accessible material to date. Firmly rooted in their trademark symphonic sounds featuring elaborate keyboard and guitar parts blended seamlessly with intricate string and choir sections, Olzon’s vocals have more pop sensibility as they are far less operatic than those of her predecessor. This is perfectly exemplified in the vocal melodies in Amaranth, Eva and the scorching duet with bassist Marco Hietala titled Bye Bye Beautiful. Nightwish mastermind Tuomas Holopainen (keyboards) not only wrote all the lyrics and all but two songs on the album, but also helmed the project as one of the producers along with T.C. Kinnunen and Mikko Karmila, who also mixed the album. Dark Passion Play has already made history as Finland’s most expensive recording project to date with massive string sections and choirs and it is clearly evident in the impeccable production. Nightwish have taken the symphonic elements of their prior works and infused them with a new voice to create a sound representative of the album title: dark, playful and, most of all, passionate. Nightwish – Once (2004) [DVD-AUDIO ISO]

Nightwish – Once (2004)
Artist: Nightwish | Album: Once | Style: Symphonic Power Metal | Year: 2004 | Quality: DVD-Audio (MLP 5.1 48kHz/24Bit, MLP 2.0 48kHz/24Bit, Dolby AC3 5.1, Dolby AC3 2.0) | Bitrate: lossless | Tracks: 12 + 3 bonus tracks + 2 videoclips | Size: ~ 4.34 Gb | Recovery: 3% | Covers: in archive | Release: Nuclear Blast (27361 16252), 2004 | Note: Not Watermarked

Following in the footsteps of the Gathering and Lacuna Coil (goth-influenced “symphonic” metal bands with female vocalists), Nightwish were formed in Kitee, Finland, in 1997 by keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen. Initially attempting to create acoustic music, he recruited trained opera vocalist Tarja Turunen, but soon added full metal-band instrumentation in the persons of guitarist Emppo Vuorinen, bassist Sami Vänskä, and drummer Jukka Nevalainen. The band’s demos landed them a contract with the Finnish label Spinefarm, which released their debut album Angels Fall First in late 1997 (it appeared in the rest of Europe the following year). The follow-up, Oceanborn, appeared in late 1998 and made Nightwish a bonafide mainstream success in their homeland; the album reached the Finnish Top Five and spun off three Top Ten singles. The band toured Europe heavily, consolidating their success, and in 2000 recorded their third album Wishmaster. Not only did it top the Finnish charts, but it also became the group’s first album to be released in the US (by Century Media, which reissued their previous albums in 2001 as well). –All Music Guide

Radio K.A.O.S. is the second studio album by British rock musician and former Pink Floyd member Roger Waters. It was Waters’ first album after his split from Pink Floyd in 1985. Like his previous and future studio albums and many works of his during his time with Pink Floyd, this is a concept album. The album is based around a number of key factors of politics in the late 1980s – monetarism, and its effect on citizens. It also makes criticisms of Margaret Thatcher’s government, much like Pink Floyd’s The Final Cut, another album conceived by Waters. Other influences include popular culture of the 1980s, and the choices and consequences of the Cold War and its effect on world politics and society. (more…)

Sasha Refracted Live 2017 720p+1080p MBLURAY x264-DEV0

“Who is this Sasha then?” asked the Barbican ticket office, as a friend desperately tried to get a ticket. “We’ve never seen an event sell so quickly and we’ve never heard of him.” Well, they have now.
After the worry, the fretting, the rehearsing, the practicing and the rave bootcamp, Sasha and cohorts turned the Barbican into their personal triumph. Not bad for an idea that, not so many months ago, appeared to be a DJ’s folly.
It was quite unlike anything he’d undertaken in his 30 year DJ career. To help him, he pulled together a team that included longtime collaborators Charlie May, Dennis White, Dave Gardner, with technical help from Barry Jamieson and behind the scenes advice from the immensely experienced Tommy D – who’s worked with everyone from Right Said Fred to Jess Glynne – and whose wife Rosie Danvers led Wired Strings for both shows. Alongside this core team, orchestral percussionist Joby Burgess and vocalist Julie Daske were added, as well as a plethora of guest singers that included John Graham and Abigail Wyles.
It was a show of two halves. The first half, contemplative, abstract, yet with a surprising intensity, delivered a perfect iteration of 2016’s Scene Delete, with twelve compositions drawn from the album and a previously unheard tune, Interstellar, sandwiched in the middle. The livelier second half was a mixture of Sasha favourites, opening with Gothika and including crowd favourites Belfunk and Wavy Gravy, with three of his remixes – Battleships, Smile and Every Love That Ever Was – before finishing the evening with a sympathetically reworked version of Sasha classic,
Xpander, a powerful climax to two very special shows.
Naturally talk has turned to further shows and tours and bigger ambitions. For now, though, enjoy this unique live recording. Sasha as you’ve never seen him before. (more…)

Phish – "Baker’s Dozen" Madison Square Garden, NYC, NY Webcast Rips (1080p Untouched/Trimmed, All 13 Shows)

Thirty-four years into their career, Phish found new ways to surprise their obsessive fan base during their 13-night “Baker’s Dozen” residency at Madison Square Garden, which wrapped up Sunday night. The band didn’t repeat a single song during the run, which included 26 sets of music, 237 songs total. Taking loose inspiration from flavors of designer donuts distributed at the door each night by the Philadelphia-based Federal Donuts, the Vermont quartet debuted a slate of songs that ranged from a 1920s blues standard to a 2007 viral video, from underground Seventies funk to 21st-century art rock. The audience was hardly limited to those inside MSG, or even listening in real time, with the band webcasting the shows and archiving them via their LivePhish platform. The Baker’s Dozen was one of most ambitious seasons of Phish in years: three weeks’ worth of twist-filled musical episodes for an engaged fanbase and onlookers wondering if it’s too late to get in on the joke.

Produced by Bill Levenson, who compiled the definitive Skydog: The Duane Allman Retrospective (Rounder, 2013), The 1971 Fillmore East Recordings captures the most inspired improvisational rock unit ever at the peak of their prodigious powers, blazing their way through extended instrumental elaborations, so taut and virtuosic, that the crowds that packed the Fillmore East on those memorable nights were utterly transfixed.
