Veteran singer-songwriter and producer Kenneth ‘Babyface‘ Edmonds is tagging some leading ladies in R&B for a Girls Night Out. Described as a “a sonic journey through love, heartbreak and all of the emotions in between,” Girls Night Out will feature Edmonds alongside Ella Mai, Kehlani, Ari Lennox, Queen Naija, Doechii and more.
During the BET Awards 2022 this past Sunday (June 26), Edmonds performed the album’s lead single “Keeps on Fallin’” with Ella Mai. The album, which marks his Capitol Records debut, will also be Edmonds’ first album since Return of the Tender Lover in 2015.

‘Indie’ cross-over composers and their Polish avant-garde heroes come together in a program about musical inheritance. The “Indies & Idols” program is an excellent example of artistic director Richard Tognetti’s flair for making a unified narrative out of the apparently eclectic. In this case – a meeting of the heroes of the Polish avant-garde with some contemporary ‘indie’ cross-over artists who admire them.
Tognetti thinks that the contemporary composers of “Indies & Idols” – Jonny Greenwood, Sufjan Stevens and Bryce Dessner – are the inheritors of what has been a “slow-motion response” to the upheavals of Modernism. This generation that I’m part of, and younger, have all responded to Modernism in a sort of slow dance, if you like”, he says. “It’s taken a long time.

The classic symptoms of a broken spirit will be the band’s 10th studio album and is the follow-up to last year’s critically acclaimed album For Those That Wish To Exist. The band barely had time to celebrate success when they began the process of writing the songs that make up the new record. Produced by Dan Searle and Josh Middleton, with additional production from Sam Carter at Deacon’s Middle Farm Studios and their own HQ, Electric Studios in Brighton. The band were buoyed by finally being back in the room together after their last album was made mostly remote due to COVID restrictions, the result was something altogether more “free, playful and spontaneous” the bands drummer and songwriter Dan explains. “This one feels more live, more exciting and more fun – it has that energy. We wanted it to be a lot more industrial and electronic,” agrees frontman Sam Carter.

In the summer of 2020, Irish musician Aoife Nessa Frances moved to the west of Ireland to begin working on the songs that would become her second album, Protector. A lifelong Dublin resident, Frances found solace being removed from city life. But perhaps more importantly, like many people in their late twenties who have finally shaken off youthful rebelliousness, Frances also experienced a solidification of familial ties like never before, and felt the formation of a protective, impenetrable shell. Fittingly, just before the recording process, Frances’ mother experienced a vivid dream. In it, Aoife stood at the foot of a mountain with an Alsatian by her side, a companion and guard dog to protect her along the path she’d chosen. That image stayed with Aoife – feeling a protector’s presence accompanying her during the intense period of transformation that followed.
