jess joy (formerly of Moon Honey) is a multimedia artist based in the dreamy undercurrent of Los Angeles, hailing from the swamps of south Louisiana. In art school, guitarist Andrew Martin (Palaye Royale) commissioned her to paint a guitar amp, and a partnership flourished. Moon Honey toured the country, were lauded by the New York Times – “whirlwind virtuosity” – and NPR – “one of those voices cults form around”, played on KEXP, worked with producers John Goodmanson (Blonde Redhead, Sleater-Kinney) and Greg Saunier (Deerhoof) and went out with a bang.

Out of the Spectacle” is the crystallization of a continuing collaboration between three Danish improvising musicians from three different generations, that places itself somewhere between textural improvisation, expressive free jazz and abstract soul. Alto saxophonist Jesper Zeuthen is a Danish legend, that got public attention already in the late 60’s for his work with the group “Blue Sun” and has continued to evolve his music through his own bands and his work with Jakob Bro, Anderskov Accident, Kasper Tranberg etc. Jacob Anderskov is one of the most outstanding voices on the piano and has, since his debut in 2001, received numerous awards for his music. He has worked with Michael Formanek, Chris Speed, Airto Moreira etc. In 2018 he is nominated for the Nordic Council Music Price.

Jesper Thorn is a Copenhagen-based composer and double bass player. He grew up in Dragør, on the outskirts of Copenhagen.
He graduated with a master degree in music performance from the prestigious Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen (2011) including studies in New York with Ralph Alessi, Marc Helias, John Hébert, Ben Monder and Eric McPherson.
While attending RMC he studied with a.o. Anders Jormin, Arild Andersen, Jesper Bodilsen and Klavs Hovman.
He has worked as a sideman and artistic collaborator with people such as Ralph Alessi, August Rosenbaum, Palle Mikkelborg, Thomas Agergaard, Lars Jansson, Jacob Karlzon, Jacob Christoffersen, Alex Riel, Nikolaj Hess, author, filmmaker and danish icon Jørgen Leth and the great danish poet Søren Ulrik Thomsen.

The time when Danish musicians felt substandard to visiting American jazz artists is over. But for Jesper Thilo, this was never the case. He received early recognition and appreciation from Americans, who from the very beginning regarded him as a musician that could easily achieve the level they represented. One could have asked Webster, Hawkins, Benny Carter, Roy Eldridge, “Sweets,” Clark Terry, Dizzy and any of the other international names that Thilo played with during his long and glorious career. The inarguable consensus was, and is, that he’s always been effortlessly on par with the Americans and since the early 1960s positioned himself as a colossus on the Danish jazz landscape.
