The present recording features music by the composers Edvard Grieg, born on June 15, 1843 in Bergen, Norway, where he died on September 4, 1907, and George Enescu (born on August 19, 1881 in Liveni, Romania, died on May 4, 1955 in Paris). Despite all the contrasts in their origins and their biographical data, both composers have one thing in common: their affinity with the music of their homeland. Acclaimed by the international music press as a “virtuoso of astonishing brilliance” and a “thoroughly poetic artist” (Dr Joachim Kaiser, Süddeutsche Zeitung), Luiza Borac has established herself as one of the most charismatic artists of her generation. She already made beaufiful and really convincing recordings to the piano music by Enescu.

“States of Play” features bassist Robert Black, violist Scott Woolweaver, and John McDonald, playing the keyboard parts of the solos and duos with the string players. The recording is a retrospective of joint projects undertaken over the past couple of decades by Carl and McDonald. McDonald writes that “as longtime creative friends and mutual admirers, it seemed natural to team up here with Robert, Robert, and Scott for some “excavating” as well as some new discovering.

Guided by Voices’ Robert Pollard has reimagined and combined his two out-of-print 2007 albums into a new release, Our Gaze, set to arrive May 20 via Rockathon Records.
The new project pulls songs from the two LPs Pollard released on Oct. 9, 2007: Standard Gargoyle Decisions and Coast to Coast Carpet of Love (both albums were originally issued by Merge Records). Though both albums are still available digitally, they’ve been out-of-print in physical formats for a while now, which is why Pollard decided to winnow the combined track list down to 15 songs and release them as Our Gaze.

Giuseppe Torelli, whose native land was Veneto, is deservedly included among the composers who contributed to the renown and success of the Bolognese School, which was undoubtedly one of the keystones of Italian Baroque music, together with the Venetian, Roman and Neapolitan Schools. Torelli’s production that has been handed down to us includes almost 200 works, most of them chamber-music instrumental compositions and orchestral pieces with solo performers. Eight of these works are in print, practically all of them published in Bologna from 1686 onwards. The 12 concerti grossi con una Pastorale per il Santissimo Natale, posthumous work no. 8 from 1709, published by Felice Torelli, brother of the composer and celebrated painter, are undoubtedly his most inspired work, and not only for their extremely high musical quality. The collection is divided into two parts: six pieces are actual Concerti Grossi, while the other six are Concerti for violin and orchestra. The solo violinists Jeremie Chigioni and Roberto Noferini (already interpreter of the world’s first recording of Paganini’s Capricci on historical violin, v. Tactus TC781690) are at the head of the Ensemble Locatelli from Bergamo, concerted and directed by Chiara Cattani.

This is the fourth and final volume in a series of albums recording all 81 of the folk songs in English that Ralph Vaughan Williams arranged for voice and piano or violin. 57 songs have not previously been recorded in these arrangements. This album has 19 tracks including 13 world premières.All but four of the songs were collected by Maud Karpeles in Newfoundland in 1929 and 1930. When she got back, she and Vaughan Williams spent some hours going through everything that she had found, selecting the 15 songs presented here – with an emphasis, it seems, on the sadder songs. As a result, many people will find this the most enjoyable album of the set. Maud Karpeles said that her life would have been worthwhile if collecting She’s Like the Swallow had been all that she had done.

Rodney Allen Rippy sings a kiddie Lp on Bell Records. Vinyl Lp dates into 1974. Think of it as another RICKY SEGALL SINGS album (that Partridge Family cutesy kid)….
Well, if you’ve just GOTTA HEAR another version of that detestable Disney earworm, “It’s A Small, Small World,” which was also recorded by The Mike Curb Congregation on MGM (a minor hit), and Slim Whitman, and a Mormon yodeling album guy, Arthur Brogli, among others….
Packaging includes a tear off foldover flap poster, sing along lyrics, and the inner sleeve has a color photo on one side and a bunch of park/playground color photos on the other side.
Title track on this just barely charted on the Billboard “Bubbling Under the Hot 100” singles chart, while it ran up to #75 on Cash Box. Really.
Arranging and Conducting credit goes to Al Capps, so you get a little tiny kiddie pop/rock album by the folks who made you albums by Jim Nabors, the Lennon Sisters, and Liza Minnelli. Arrangements are TV pop from the early ’70s, that softer side of contemporary than the Carpenters. The horn section sounds tuned to play with flutes.

It was in 2017, after many years of musical adventures, that Nikk Giggs (vocals/guitar) and Stan Blaineau (bass/backing vocals) decided to reconnect with their first loves: the Blues and Rock of the 60s-70s. They quickly contacted Nicolas Mermoud (drums/backing vocals) and formed MIDNIGHT BURST. Regularly accompanied by harmonica player Vincent Dupuis in concert and in the studio, he becomes the “official guest” of the group.
The group took advantage of the general cessation of concerts in 2020 to compose their first songs. They released two singles in 2021: Didn’t Wake Up This Morning and The Maze.
In 2022, life resumes its course, and MIDNIGHT BURST combines the intensive resumption of concerts with the continuation of the recording of the first album.
At the same time, they are investing in YouTube by producing around a hundred videos with more than 250,000 views, notably with the participation of Tanguy Kerleroux, Nym Rhosilir, Arthur Dart…
During the writing of the album, they were winners of the Grosses Guitares and Blues springboards in Jarnioux, and opened for Charlélie Couture, Jessie Lee & The Alchemists, Mister Mat, Riff Wave (Tanguy Kerleroux), 58 Shots.
Today, after more than 200 concerts, successful Crowdfunding and with the help of their partners (Savarez, Vikory Drumsticks, Heats, Lutherie Letourneau, Afozic booking), the group is preparing the release of its first album A Mazy Night with Popa Chubby and Fred Chapellier as guests.
A Mazy Night is released by Rock’n’Hall on the famous DixieFrog label.

Music in Time of War, the new double-album from pianist Kirill Gerstein, places the music of Komitas, pioneer of ethnomusi- cology and founder of the Armenian national school of music, alongside that of Claude Debussy, a seminal composer in the late 19th and early 20th centuries who held a deep admiration of Komitas’s music. Both composers were profoundly affected by the implosion of their worlds – Komitas by the Armenian Genocide, Debussy by the First World War – and their music reflects a close emotional alignment. Music in Time of War grew from Gerstein’s fascination with music’s power to reflect a narrative. The project will be released as a double CD album and will be accompanied by a hardcover book containing a series of illustrations and detailed essays in three languages commissioned by the pianist.

The year 1970 , marked an era that was dependent on the Cuban genre; however, Harlow kicked in the decade of modern salsa with this wonderfully eclectic sound. There is energy to spare in one of the earlier forms of Harlow’s breezy, rambunctious ’70s style. Twenty-year-old Ismael Miranda grabs honors on several self-penned tunes: the title song, “Abandonada Fue,” and “Oigan Bien Mi Guaguancó” were all strong staples of Harlow’s band’s book. Harlow, Miranda, and his associates were among the leading New York salsa catalysts who helped to break the Cuban mold and helped push the music into newer directions.
