Le Printemps dans l’âme reflects the spirit of a beautiful artistic and human encounter. This exciting programme mirrors our duo : voluble, emphatic and sometimes festive, it is also made up of moments of thinking, dreaming, like ‘breaks’ into a whirl of playful virtuosity.

As in Horovitz’s orBernstein’s sonatinas, jazz as an inspiration seems to implicitly pervade almost all of theworks from this programme. The listener will be offered a musical change of scene thanks to its peculiar harmonies, sharp rhythms, the humorous touch that sometimes sticks out as in silent film music in the piece by Dartevelle, but also its languid ballads worthy of a piano bar atmosphere. For it is quite often a needfor exoticism, or the longing for a country they may have crossed, that a composer aims to evoke when getting inspiration from the musical folklore of acontinent. It is indeed thec ase with Darius Milhaud, a Brazil lover, whose Scaramouche piece turns the traditional figure of this characterfrom the Commedia dell’Arte into both a traveller and a pilgrim, touched in his buffoon soul by the Brazilian saudade and the Samba from the Rio Carnival…

The change ofmusical and sound scene also happens with Debussy’s famous First Rhapsody. Its unrestricted and narrative structure reminds usof the odes by the poets from Ancient Greece and takes the listener by the ear to tell them a story, full of aquatic and iridescent tones.

Finally, this change of scene also occurs with the world of childhood, a playground formischief, as in the piece by Jean Françaix, whose alibi, an unforgettable gameof hide-and-seek between a grandfather and his grandson, is an excuse forendless acrobatic and contrasted variations…
