Kisses On The Bottom is a collection of standards Paul grew up listening to in his childhood as well as the two new McCartney compositions “My Valentine” and “Only Our Hearts.” With the help of Grammy Award-winning producer Tommy LiPuma and Diana Krall and her band–as well as guest appearances from Eric Clapton and Stevie Wonder, McCartney’s new album is a deeply personal journey through classic American compositions that, in some cases, a young Paul first heard his father perform on piano at home. This limited edition version includes the exclusive bonus tracks “Baby’s Request” and “My One And Only Love”. (more…)

McCartney’s debut into the world of ballet is a story of good and evil, love and war that takes place in the depths of the ocean. An hour long score featuring four stunning movements – “Ocean’s Kingdom,” “Hall of Dance,” “Imprisonment” and “Moonrise” – the ballet tells of a love story within the story of an underwater world whose people are threatened by the humans of Earth. A potently expressive and richly varied work, the score is Paul’s most challenging and emotionally complex yet.

Commissioned by New York City Ballet, the music draws on late Romanic composers while maintaining McCartney’s genius for simplicity and melody. The result is a breathtaking and imaginative orchestral work—one that proves yet another artistic facet of the legendary musician.

Alison Krauss + Union Station – New Favorite (2003) SACD ISO

Alison Krauss + Union Station – New Favorite (2003)
SACD ISO | DSD64 2.0, 5.1 > 1-bit/2.8224 MHz | 44:57 minutes | All Scans included | 2,89 GB

Following the success of the startlingly popular traditional old-timey soundtrack for the film O Brother, Where Art Thou?, contemporary bluegrass pioneers Alison Krauss & Union Station moved in the opposite direction for their 2001 release, New Favorite. While Krauss and Union Station guitarist/vocalist Dan Tyminski got deeply in touch with their dust bowl Americana roots for their work on the film, their follow-up studio album is certainly the slickest, most progressive work they’ve recorded to date. New Favorite seems almost neatly divided into two albums: one following the same path as Krauss’ 1999 contemporary country solo album, Forget About It, and the other helmed by Tyminski, bringing a progressive slant to Union Station’s traditional bluegrass feel. The whole album is well crafted (with the exception of Tyminski’s laborious, drawn-out “The Boy Who Wouldn’t Hoe Corn”) but will certainly not sit right with certain elements of the band’s core audience, who has come to know them as the strongest traditionally based bluegrass act still recording. The whole album feels a little too slick and reverbed out; the brilliant dobro work of Jerry Douglas seems mired in echoes, and at times Krauss’ vocals seem to be coming out of some deep studio well. The musicianship, however, is beyond top-notch. The players (specifically banjo player Ron Block and guitarist Tyminski) are among the best in the genre, and the harmonies between the two vocalists are stunning and chill inducing. Their call and response vocals on “Daylight” serve as the highlight of the album, traced delicately by Douglas’ dobro and chilling to the end. Unfortunately, the collective spirit that was so evident on their 1997 release So Long So Wrong seems to be dissolving, and the award-winning fiddle playing that brought Krauss to the nation’s attention seems to be becoming almost a background instrument (if it shows up at all). While there are intriguing moments in the album, it lacks the spark that So Long So Wrong had in spades, and even their few moments on the O Brother soundtrack seemed to breathe more life into the band than New Favorite does.

Hubert Laws – The Rite Of Spring (1971/2013) [Official Digital Download DSF DSD64/2.82MHz]

Hubert Laws – The Rite Of Spring (1971/2013)
DSF Stereo DSD64/2.82MHz | Time – 30:50 minutes | 1,21 GB | Genre: Jazz
Studio Masters, Official Digital Download – Source: e-Onkyo | Booklet, Front Cover | © CTI Records
Recorded: June 8, 10 and 25, 1971 at Van Gelder Studio in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey

Long before Wynton decided he could play classical chops as well as the real long-haired interpreters, even though he was a jazz musician, Hubert Laws and his partners at CTI gave it a run with a jazz twist, and for the most part with a far more adventurous repertoire. Unfortunately, the results were just about as thrilling as Wynton’s, with a few notable exceptions. For whatever reason, flutist Hubert Laws, known for his soul-jazz deftness, decided to take on handful of classical texts with the help of Bob James on piano, harpsichord, and electric piano; bassist Ron Carter, who doubles on cello; and drummer Jack DeJohnette, along with percussionists Airto and David Friedman, a pair of classical guitarists, and a trio of bassoonists. The program ranges from Debussy’s lovely “Syrinx” and Faure’s “Pavane,” to Stravinsky on the title cut and two movements of the third Brandberg Concerto by Bach. The problem with so much variation and ambition is that it’s bound to get caught up somewhere. That catching place is in the articulation of the actual transcriptions. They are stiff, rigid, oddly intoned, and lackluster — except in Debussy’s “Syrinx,” which is gorgeous throughout with its strange meter and lilting cadence. On the rest, the only place the tunes work is in the sections where the players engage in jazz improvisation upon the score, which is a swirling, engaging free-for-all of color, texture, and nuance. But since this happens so irregularly, the pieces just seem to grate on the listener. This is a brave but ultimately failed experiment.

Nightwish – Once (2004) [DVD-AUDIO ISO]

Nightwish – Once (2004)
Artist: Nightwish | Album: Once | Style: Symphonic Power Metal | Year: 2004 | Quality: DVD-Audio (MLP 5.1 48kHz/24Bit, MLP 2.0 48kHz/24Bit, Dolby AC3 5.1, Dolby AC3 2.0) | Bitrate: lossless | Tracks: 12 + 3 bonus tracks + 2 videoclips | Size: ~ 4.34 Gb | Recovery: 3% | Covers: in archive | Release: Nuclear Blast (27361 16252), 2004 | Note: Not Watermarked

Following in the footsteps of the Gathering and Lacuna Coil (goth-influenced “symphonic” metal bands with female vocalists), Nightwish were formed in Kitee, Finland, in 1997 by keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen. Initially attempting to create acoustic music, he recruited trained opera vocalist Tarja Turunen, but soon added full metal-band instrumentation in the persons of guitarist Emppo Vuorinen, bassist Sami Vänskä, and drummer Jukka Nevalainen. The band’s demos landed them a contract with the Finnish label Spinefarm, which released their debut album Angels Fall First in late 1997 (it appeared in the rest of Europe the following year). The follow-up, Oceanborn, appeared in late 1998 and made Nightwish a bonafide mainstream success in their homeland; the album reached the Finnish Top Five and spun off three Top Ten singles. The band toured Europe heavily, consolidating their success, and in 2000 recorded their third album Wishmaster. Not only did it top the Finnish charts, but it also became the group’s first album to be released in the US (by Century Media, which reissued their previous albums in 2001 as well). –All Music Guide

Radio K.A.O.S. is the second studio album by British rock musician and former Pink Floyd member Roger Waters. It was Waters’ first album after his split from Pink Floyd in 1985. Like his previous and future studio albums and many works of his during his time with Pink Floyd, this is a concept album. The album is based around a number of key factors of politics in the late 1980s – monetarism, and its effect on citizens. It also makes criticisms of Margaret Thatcher’s government, much like Pink Floyd’s The Final Cut, another album conceived by Waters. Other influences include popular culture of the 1980s, and the choices and consequences of the Cold War and its effect on world politics and society. (more…)

Brothers And Sisters bested the sales of At Fillmore East and Eat A Peach, spending five weeks at #1 and becoming the first Allman Brothers Band release to gain Platinum sales status.

This 40th Anniversary Super Deluxe Edition features the original recording, a second album of previously unreleased Jams, Rehearsals and Outtakes, in addition to two extra albums that feature the entire live show from Winterland in San Francisco on September 26, 1973.
