Brazilian composer Alberto Nepomuceno (1864-1920) is considered to be the founder of Brazilian art song. He deeply absorbed the influence of the German Lied and French Mélodie, combined them with some characteristic rhythms and melodic elements from his native country, and during his lifetime produced the most important body of Brazilian art songs, perhaps to this day.Featured on this album are nine of his non-Portuguese songs, five of which are world premiere recordings. Also included are songs by his European contemporaries Ernest Chausson, Edvard Grieg, and Richard Strauss.

Winner of the “Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde Mosel-Eifel” Prize in Germany, pianist Régulo Martínez-Antón has appeared in renowned venues throughout Europe and North and South America. A versatile and passionate performing artist, Mr. Martínez-Antón has proven himself to be one of the most intriguing Spanish pianists of his generation. He has presented solo recitals at the prestigious El Escorial Music Festival and a performance of Beethoven’s “Emperor” Concerto with Maestro Michael Francis and the Andres Segovia Chamber Orchestra. He received a special invitation from El Sistema and it’s founder Maestro José Abreu to perform a recital in Caracas, Venezuela, commemorating the life of famed Spanish pianist Alicia de Larrocha. Mr. Martínez-Antón also gave the Canadian premiere of the music drama Chopin and the Nightingale, performing the leading role of Chopin at the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto. On the present release he presents a program of works by Beethoven, Liszt, Mendelssohn, Monpou, and Schumann.

One of early prog’s great tragedies was the premature loss of the original Renaissance, who forged their exotic blend of classical rock for little more than a year before disintegrating then morphing into the safer Annie Haslam-fronted band of the same name. Renaissance had been planned by the late Keith Relf and drummer Jim McCarty during their last days in the Yardbirds, emerging in spring 1969 bolstered by the former’s singing sister Jane, firecracker virtuoso bassist Louis Cennamo and ex-Nashville Teens pianist John Hawken, who clinched their classically-infused new sound when he launched into a burst of Beethoven at rehearsal.

Redbone is an American rock band formed in 1969 in Los Angeles, California, and performed funk rock with elements of rhythm and blues, jazz, Latin influences and cage music. One of the initiators of the creation of Redbone was Jimi Hendrix: it was he who suggested to the brothers Pat and Lolly Vasquez, who had previously performed under their own names, to form the first “true Indian rock band” in the USA. The commercial success of the ensemble was brought by three hit singles: “Maggie” (1970), “The Witch Queen of New Orleans” and “Come and Get Your Love” — the third of them in 1974 rose to the 4th place in the Billboard 200 .

..Either a love letter to the 1980s or parody of that particular soundscape, this album is a bit listener-specific as it doesn’t cater to everyone’s taste. Some may really enjoy what they hear, others maybe not so much, while a few may feel overwhelmed by the over-the-top soundscape. This will probably be a “love it or hate it” -type of album. RECKLESS LOVE took a pretty big risk coming out of their 5-year slumber with such a record and only time can tell if their gamble paid off or not….
