Rush’s 1981 album Moving Pictures is being reissued for its (belated) 40th anniversary in April.
The album was recorded in Quebec’s Le Studio and saw the band continue down the route of shorter, more radio friendly songs. Longtime producer Terry Brown was back for what was the band’s eighth studio album.
Moving Pictures features the singles ‘Tom Sawyer’, ‘Limelight’ and ‘Vital Signs’, although they weren’t all issued in all territories. As with the previous reissue, Permanent Waves, Moving Pictures 40 boasts revised front cover artwork on the front of the various packages (although the vinyl albums in the box sets retain the original).

RuPaul Andre Charles (born November 17, 1960), known mononymously as RuPaul, is an American drag queen, actor, model, singer, television personality, and author. Since 2009, he has produced and hosted the reality competition series RuPaul’s Drag Race, for which he has received eleven Primetime Emmy Awards, the most-awarded person of color in the show’s history. He is considered the most commercially successful drag queen in the United States. In 2017, he was included in the annual Time 100 list of the most influential people in the world.

In the fifty songs we find in Carneriana, so carefully interpreted, David Alegret invites us dive into a poetic and musical universe that reveres life, that celebrates existence, and that expresses the beauty in the world look for sonorities, contrasts, and harmonies that can be reflected in song. What better answer than Carner’s poetry, Alegret’s placid, rigorous singing, and Fernández Aguirre’s wise pianism. And yet, the tenor and pianist did not settle for the more or less typical and predictable formulas, such as the Carnerian songs by Toldrà (which already play their own integral part), but also with living authors, to whom ad hoc compositions were requested for the production of this record. The music gathered in this album, which sings Carner’s poetry, allows us to be free and to be masters of ourselves and our time.

Ricky Ford, tenor sax legend, needs no introduction, but he’ll get one anyway because it’s important to hear his lineage before diving into his new recording. After getting his start filling the Paul Gonsalves chair in the Duke Ellington Orchestra (under Mercer Ellington’s leadership), Ford’s gone on to play with Charles Mingus, Lionel Hampton, and Abdullah Ibrahim, to name but a few of his more illustrious stints. He is, quite simply, a national treasure. His latest recording, a tip of the hat to his early roots and a focused, fabulous blast of multi-hued bebop and traditional jazz, reflects tremendous taste and virtuosity, with nods to his heroes (Hawkins, Duke, Mingus, and others) and affirmation that the guy can still play with the best of them. While he may not have the same public profile as our present-day tenor heroes, he deserves every ounce of respect that they get and more. The Wailing Sounds of Ricky Ford: Paul’s Scene, made with his accompanists pianist Mark Soskin, bassist Jerome Harris, and drummer Barry Altschul, is wondrous and his playing sounds as fresh today as it did decades back, when he was a true legend in the making.

Brazilian composer Alberto Nepomuceno (1864-1920) is considered to be the founder of Brazilian art song. He deeply absorbed the influence of the German Lied and French Mélodie, combined them with some characteristic rhythms and melodic elements from his native country, and during his lifetime produced the most important body of Brazilian art songs, perhaps to this day.Featured on this album are nine of his non-Portuguese songs, five of which are world premiere recordings. Winner of the “Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde Mosel-Eifel” Prize in Germany, pianist Régulo Martínez-Antón has appeared in renowned venues throughout Europe and North and South America. A versatile and passionate performing artist, Mr. Martínez-Antón has proven himself to be one of the most intriguing Spanish pianists of his generation. He has presented solo recitals at the prestigious El Escorial Music Festival and a performance of Beethoven’s “Emperor” Concerto with Maestro Michael Francis and the Andres Segovia Chamber Orchestra. He received a special invitation from El Sistema and it’s founder Maestro José Abreu to perform a recital in Caracas, Venezuela, commemorating the life of famed Spanish pianist Alicia de Larrocha. Mr. Martínez-Antón also gave the Canadian premiere of the music drama Chopin and the Nightingale, performing the leading role of Chopin at the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto. On the present release he presents a program of works by Beethoven, Liszt, Mendelssohn, Monpou, and Schumann.

One of early prog’s great tragedies was the premature loss of the original Renaissance, who forged their exotic blend of classical rock for little more than a year before disintegrating then morphing into the safer Annie Haslam-fronted band of the same name. Renaissance had been planned by the late Keith Relf and drummer Jim McCarty during their last days in the Yardbirds, emerging in spring 1969 bolstered by the former’s singing sister Jane, firecracker virtuoso bassist Louis Cennamo and ex-Nashville Teens pianist John Hawken, who clinched their classically-infused new sound when he launched into a burst of Beethoven at rehearsal.

Unlimited Love is the upcoming twelfth studio album by the American rock band the Red Hot Chili Peppers, set for release through Warner Records on April 1, 2022. Produced by Rick Rubin, the album reunites the band with guitarist John Frusciante, who left in 2009 and rejoined in 2019, replacing Josh Klinghoffer.
The first single, “Black Summer”, was released in February 2022; it became the Chili Peppers’ fourteenth number one on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart chart. The second single “These Are the Ways” followed in April 2022. A world tour is set to begin in June 2022.
