Another Life is the fourth studio album by American boy band Big Time Rush. It was released on June 2, 2023, and is their first studio album released under their own independent label, Bought the Rights, and BMG. It marks their first studio album in just under a decade since 24/Seven (2013).
On April 4, 2023, the band announced the release date of a new single on May 3, 2023, followed by the release of their fourth studio album on June 9, 2023. The full track list was revealed on April 30, 2023, confirming that the album would be titled Another Life. Pre-orders of the album became available on May 3, 2023, alongside the release of another new single and the reveal of the official album artwork.
On May 5, 2023, the band announced Another Life would be released a week earlier on June 2, 2023, coinciding with their performance on Today as part of the 2023 Citi Summer Concert Series. Subsequently, the album was released on CD and LP on August 18, 2023 and September 22, 2023 respectively worldwide.
The band later announced that a deluxe edition of the album will be released on November 10, 2023. This version of the album is set to include four brand new songs, an acoustic version of “Weekends”, and a re-recording of an unreleased song “Shot in the Dark”, which was previously featured on the band’s television show.

Robert Muller-Hartmann was born in Hamburg, in 1884, the son of the piano teacher and clarinettist Josef Muller and his wife, Jenny. He studied in Berlin for four years, but then returned to Hamburg where he pursued a successful career combining teaching, composing, and writing. His works were widely performed by conductors such as Karl Muck, Carl Schuricht, Richard Strauss, Otto Klemperer, and Fritz Busch, and regularly played on German Radio. With the advent of National Socialism, in 1933, Muller-Hartmann was forced to resign from his teaching posts at the University and Conservatory. He continued to teach at Hamburg’s Jewish girls’ school, and was an active contributor to the Judischer Kulturbund (Jewish Cultural Federation). In the mid 1930s, Eugenia and Jacob (Yanya) Hornstein, Hamburg friends of the Muller-Hartmanns, moved to the town of Dorking, some twenty-five miles south of London, and in 1937 the Muller-Hartmanns followed them. The thirteen years Robert spent in England saw the country scarred by the losses, destruction, and privations of war. There was very little time or opportunity for him to secure a place in his adoptive country’s musical life, and despite his considerable success in Germany during the 1920s and ’30s, his reputation had failed to cross the English Channel. A general antipathy to the inclusion of German musical exiles and his modest, rather retiring personality ensured that he would soon be forgotten.

Psychedelic Porn Crumpets are back with their sixth studio album, set for release on 10th November 2023. The Australian psych-rock five-piece have been working on ‘Fronzoli’ – a title meaning ‘something unnecessary added as decoration’ – since the release of 2022’s ‘Night Gnomes’. ‘Dilemma Us From Evil’ is the latest single to be released from the record and is a prime example of Psychedelic Porn Crumpets’ mind-bending blend of heavy melodic guitars and harmonic lyrics and eccentric songwriting oeuvre. It follows the release of singles ‘Nootmare (K-I-L-L-I-N-G) Meow!’ and ‘(I’m a Kadaver) Alakazam’, which were released earlier this year. The album announcement arrives alongside the news that Psychedelic Porn Crumpets will be supporting Royal Blood on the Australian leg of their tour later this year. The record surges with the Perth-based band’s over-the-top, glittery sound, drawing influences from the likes of classic rock behemoths Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and The Beatles, as well as electronic experimental jazz. These rock influences are firmly on display in ‘Fronzoli’, with thrashy grunge tracks such as ‘Sierra Nevada’ and the frenetic ‘Hot! Heat! Wow! Hot!’ showcasing the band’s hyperactive guitars and offbeat lyrics. The band, who started out as friends, before coming together to pride themselves on their joyful and unpolished messiness when it comes to songwriting and production. “This record is my favourite creation to date,” says songwriter and frontman Jack McEwan, “Every nuance has been discussed, slandered and carefully contorted into place, it sporadically colours outside the lines, so you’re left with these extraverted squiggles.”

When the likes of Cannibal Corpse and Obituary came about and pleased every butt-rocking wannabe Satanist out there, a term such as “intellectual death metal” was only thought of as just an oxymoron. That was before Meshuggah came out and outsmarted all these suburban burnouts. Sure “Chaosphere” flaunts the flaming guitar solo every now and then, and don’t forget their tendency of trying to come across as all dark and evil. But what Meshuggah have over all the carbon copy death metal acts out there is that they focus primarily on knowing how to play their instruments and segue tempo changes rather than trying to outspeed and outgrowl everybody. Seriously, each song will have one guessing on which direction the band is going to take next. Who would have thought that there would be a band that could respark a genre that was long thought overdone after the second Napalm Death record? – Mike DaRonco
