This year, Tarja is making sure that the Advent season starts in November with her brand new Christmas album. Get ready for an extraordinary Christmas!

The album contains 11 traditional Christmas songs, which are brought to a completely new level by Tarja’s classically trained vocals, along with darker Gothic influences. With the help of a symphony orchestra, the most successful Finnish solo artist manages to give a shady overtone to traditional songs such as “O Tannenbaum”, “We Wish You A Merry Christmas” or “Feliz Navidad”, thus reminding the listener of a gloomy movie soundtrack. In addition to classic Christmas carols, “from Spirits and Ghosts” also features a 12th track. Track to find: the brand new original “Together”. The song fits effortlessly into the dark style of the album and the world of ghosts and mysticism.

Tarja says: “Producing a dark Christmas album in midsummer is a very interesting process, especially if you do it by the deep blue Caribbean Sea. This is very different from the snowy Christmas that I am used to from my native Finland. This is proof that darkness comes from deep within. On this album I dealt with the flip side of Christmas. The Christmas of the lonely and the lost. This is Christmas for those people who do not find joy in the flashing lights and tinkling bells.“

The album was produced by Tarja, the American Emmy Award-winning film music composer Jim Dooley and the British producer Tim Palmer, who is known for his work with Pearl Jam, U2, David Bowie, Lang Lang and The Cure, among others, and also mixed the album at 62‘ Studio in Texas. The album was mastered at Sterling Sound in New York City.
