Decca Records will release a soundtrack album for the French/Belgian drama La petite. The album features the film’s original music composed by Ludovico Einaudi (The Intouchables, The Father, This Is England, Samba). The soundtrack will be released on December 8 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon, where you can also check out the track list. A first track (Les Souvenirs et les Èmotions) is already available to stream/download now and can be checked out below. La petite is co-written and directed by Guillaume Nicloux and stars Fabrice Luchini, Mara Taquin, Maud Wyler and Veerle Baetens. The movie follows a 60-year old man who – upon learning of the accidental death of his son and his partner – travels to meet the young woman who was carrying their future baby.

On his new album “In A Time Lapse” Ludovico Einaudi reflects on the insight into the finiteness of life and its effect on our feelings and experiences. In doing so, he creates the moving soundtrack to a kind of life film in time lapse, a phenomenon known, for example, from descriptions of people with a near-death experience. “The moment in which we become aware that our lifetime is finite has an elementary significance. Because this is where the attempt to transcend the limits of thought and live every moment as intensely as you did as a child begins,” Einaudi explains about the philosophical background of his album.

‘Seven Days Walking’: seven bodies of music to be released over seven consecutive months. The first, ‘Seven Days Walking: Day One’, which interweaves piano and strings in his unmistakable style, is Einaudi’s 14th studio album and will be released on 15th March, on Decca. ‘Seven Days Walking: Day Two’ follows a month later. Each ‘day’ is then released, digitally, a month apart, leading up to ‘Day Seven’ which will be released in the autumn in a box-set of the complete Seven Days. Inspiration for the entire project derived from walks that Einaudi would take through the mountains in winter. He explains, “In January last year I often went for long walks in the mountains, always following more or less the same trail. It snowed heavily, and my thoughts roamed free inside the storm, where all shapes, stripped bare by the cold, lost their contours and colours. Perhaps that feeling of extreme essence was the origin of this album.” The first album focuses on several main themes, which then recur in different forms on the following albums – seven variations following the same imaginary itinerary. Or the same itinerary, retraced at seven different times.
