Ludovico Einaudi is an Italian classical composer who is often placed into the minimalist movement. His main choice for an instrument, the piano, serves as the backbone for his songs, acting as the prominent foundation layer; however, other instruments and effects can be heard throughout his creations on occasion as well. Throughout his career, Einaudi has also worked on various soundtracks for movies, and a few key pieces from his albums – most notably “Fly” – have been used in various commercials for movies and sports promotions as well. Divernire is the composer’s seventh proper studio album.

Released in 1996, Le Onde “The Waves” was the first solo piano album released by Ludovico Einaudi. The incredible work featured the following quote from the man himself. “If it were a story it would be set on the seafront of a long beach. A beach without beginning and without end. The story of a man who walks along this shore and perhaps never meets anyone. His gaze lingers occasionally to look at some object or fragment brought from the sea. The footprints of a crab or a solitary seagull. I always take the sand, the sky, some clouds, the sea. Only the waves change, always the same and different, smaller. larger. Shorter. Longer.”

Released in 1999, Eden Roc starts with deeply moody atmospherics akin to those found in film soundtracks, before moving through a wide range of different moods weaving between songs more familiar in pop sounding records. The record contains the sing Due Tramonti, which contains beautifully lyrical melodies from the Cello of Marco Decimo. This is the first time Eden Roc has been available on vinyl.

In 2010, Ludovico Einaudi was invited to direct the orchestra of the La Notte Della Taranta festival in Salento, Italy. Embarking on a mission to reinvent traditional Salentine music, Einaudi invited a few fellow musicians to share in the adventure, including Ballake Sissoko, Justin Adams, Juldeh Camara, Mercan Dede, Redi Hasa and Mauro Durante. The resulting collaboration of these great musicians was a huge hit. After taking the show on tour, the decision to document the powerful emotions of this extraordinary journey was made. The Taranta Project is a tremendously exciting and innovative album, and Einaudi’s superb arrangements breathe new life into an ancient tradition.

Italian-born Ludovico Einaudi’s Piano music has struck a chord with audiences across the world, and his distinctive meditative style has confirmed his place in the music industry. His albums have soared high in the classical charts and his recitals have been sell-outs.
This is Ludovico Einaudi’s new project, Nightbook – a musical meditation on the transition between light and darkness, the known and the unknown.
Expressive and with a more open compositional structure, sonic colours are created through the close blending of the Piano with the Strings and percussion and from the use of electronics which amplifies the sound of the Piano, projecting it like a shadow in all directions.
The project grew out of the ideas and “musical sketches” that Einaudi jotted down in a notebook whilst on tour around the world.
Einaudi describes the project as A night-time landscape. A garden faintly visible under the dull glow of the night sky. A few stars dotting the darkness above, shadows of the trees all around. Light shining from a window behind me. What I can see is familiar, but it seems alien at the same time. It’s like a dream – anything may happen.
