On her new DVD Leslie Pintchik Quartet Live In Concert, pianist and composer Pintchik enlists her long-time band-mates Scott Hardy, Mark Dodge and Satoshi Takeishi; four strong originals and three very intriguing arrangements of well-known tunes make for a terrific playlist by this vibrant quartet. Pintchik’s concert was presented by the Shandelee Music Festival, as part of its New York City Showcase Series, on March 12, 2009. The intimate salon-like setting with audience close at hand makes this a wonderfully music-friendly setting. And Pintchik’s rapport with the audience can be heard in her conversational lead-ins to many of the pieces, which display her humor, warmth for her band-mates, and also gravity and depth of feeling.
