This project was born out of a meeting and from the dramatic pandemic that hit the world in the spring of 2020. Sonya Yoncheva had been thinking about this programme for years, but her meeting with Leonardo Garcia Alarcon for a production of L’incoronazione di Poppea at the Opéra de Genève crystallised and modified her original idea. The two musicians then thought of a musical dialogue between the Baroque period and ours. The works are presented so that each reveals something of each other. For Sonya Yoncheva, this album was conceived as a call for a renaissance. The programme is like an exploration of the deepest corners of the human psyche through music of a high expressive density.

Leonardo Garcia Alarcon goes even further by talking about a “new way of conceiving sounds and vibrations in a space designed to give us the impression of playing within instruments”. From then on, music, as a language of the heart and soul, freed itself from languages, geography and epochs to unite all humanity through mediums such as Stradella, Monteverdi, Cavalli, Orlando Gibbons, Barbara Strozzi, linked to modern-day musicians such as Leonardo Garcia Alarcon himself, Simon Diaz, Abba, and Bulgarian folk song. – François Hudry
