In Greek mythology, the Elysian Fields is a destination only accessible after death, a place reserved to the heroic, righteous few who were granted admission to the paradisiacal dimension. In reality, Elysian Fields is a Brooklyn-based musical duo, whose sonic surrealism confirms the mythos of their name. The duo, Jennifer Charles and Oren Bloedow, were inspired by Cáo Xuěqín, the Chinese writer who authored one of the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese literature, “Dream of the Red Chamber,” which in China, is about as famous as Shakespeare is in English. In this project, they actually set some of the writer’s poems to music. What comes out of the alchemical sonic microwave of creation is The Transience of Life–an assemblage of sublimely de-conventionalized instrumentation with a dash of Chinese literary homage all bound up and sealed in neatly infectious hooks.

For decades now, Elisabeth Leonskaja has been among the most celebrated pianists of our time. In a world dominated by the media, Elisabeth Leonskaja has remained true to herself and to her music, and in doing so, is following in the footsteps of the great Russian musicians of the Soviet era, such as David Oistrakh, Sviatoslav Richter and Emil Gilels, who never wavered in their focus on the quintessence of music despite working in a very difficult political environment. Her almost legendary modesty still makes her somewhat media-shy today. Yet as soon as she walks out on the stage, audiences can sense the force behind the fact that music is and always has been her life’s work.   Born in Tbilisi, Georgia, to a Russian family, she gave her first concerts as early as age 11. Her exceptional talent soon brought her to study at the Moscow Conservatory.

No time of day has presumably been set to music more often than the nighttime. On this album violinist Elena Denisova and pianist Alexei Kornienko are featuring nocturnal works of the 20th and 21st century. Canto crepuscolare by Gian Francesco Malipiero, dating from 1908, is still a playful impressionist composition, while the Nocturne for violin and piano by John Cage (1947) rather revels the silence. A calm and melancholic vision is painted by Helmut Rogl’s Ein Traum zur halben Nacht (A Dream at Midnight, 1986), whereas Notturno (2007) by Michael Colina and Incubus, Fantasy for violin, piano and electronics (2020/21) by Alfred Huber depict the eerie and scary traits of nighttime. Like the work by Huber, Durch die Nacht (Through the Night) for violin and pre-recorded electroacoustics by Dieter Kaufmann (2020/21) as well as all the darkness we can hear – all the silence we can see (2020/21) by Oscar Jockel are world-premiere recordings.

“Way Down in the Jungle Room” is a compilation album by American singer Elvis Presley. The album features master recordings and outtakes from two recording sessions on February 2–8, 1976 and October 28–30, 1976 in the Jungle Room, a recording studio set up by Elvis in the den of Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee. The first disc subtitled “The Masters” features material from these sessions that were later released on “From Elvis Presley Boulevard, Memphis, Tennessee” (1976), and the subsequent final studio album, “Moody Blue” (1977). The second disc, “The Outtakes”, features outtakes and “in-the-studio dialog” newly mixed by Matt Ross-Spang at the Sam Phillips Recording Studio.

The Today sessions were held in RCA’s Studio C, Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, March 10–12, 1975, and marked the last time Elvis Presley would record in a studio.

Today featured a new rock song, “T-R-O-U-B-L-E”, which was released as its first single and went Top 40 in the US. “Bringin’ It Back” was its second single in the US. The album also features covers of songs by Perry Como, Tom Jones, The Pointer Sisters, Billy Swan, Faye Adams, The Statler Brothers and Charlie Rich.
