Just a few months after releasing their latest album ‘Ocean’, Lady Antebellum have released a new five-track EP that strips down some of those album tracks.

The ‘Live: In the Round EP’ sees the trio – made up of Charles Kelley, Hillary Scott and Dave Haywood – re-create five of the songs from their recent album release ‘Ocean’ in one take at Nashville’s Skyways Studios.

Speaking about the opportunity, Kelley said that the group loved being able to strip away parts of the songs and bring a much more intimate feel to them, while also saying how refreshing it was to go down that route in the studio once more.

Lady A are returning to their 2012 Christmas project On This Winter’s Night, and adding four new tracks to the album for this holiday season.

“When I think back to that original [album], we didn’t have children yet,” the group’s Dave Haywood told a group of reporters, including Sounds Like Nashville. “We wrote [‘Christmas Through Your Eyes’] with just the three of us, which was really the way we started as a band, so that was a special moment and something that only could have happened at this point in time in our lives and our careers.”

A Dutch R&B/pop group that performs original songs as well as covers of R&B/soul hits, Ladies of Soul were formed by Trijntje Oosterhuis, Candy Dulfer, Glennis Grace, Berget Lewis, and Edsilia Rombley, who have known each other since childhood. They first got together for a series of Whitney Houston tribute concerts after the R&B diva’s death in 2012. The shows were so successful that the quintet organized an arena show for Valentine’s Day 2014, which sold out, resulting in a second sold-out show scheduled for the day before. Their resulting album, Live at the Ziggo Dome 2014, hit number two on the Dutch album chart, and the following year Live at the Ziggo Dome 2015 peaked at number three. The Ladies performed in Belgium later in 2015, with another Ziggo Dome concert planned for 2016.

Nashville newcomer Laci Kaye Booth will release her self-titled debut collection. With her deeply personal and heartfelt lyrics, Booth’s debut collection shows all the facets of herself as she blends her raw and velvet-like sound with the echoes of her Country influences. The Texas native has already made a name for herself and grown a dedicated fanbase as a season favorite competing on Season 17 of American Idol and after placing in the Top 5, Booth took the leap and moved to Nashville to fully immerse herself in writing and Country music. Her unique “dreamy Country” sound is exactly what drew multiple record labels around town to the young artist likening her to the Lana Del Rey of Country. However, after meeting with Scott Borchetta and Jimmy Harnen of Big Machine Label Group, she knew she found her label home with them, 19 Recordings and her producer Dann Huff. Through word of mouth in the Nashville songwriting community she quickly proved herself and became a sought after artist to work with. With the release of this collection, she will soon be an identifiable voice in Country music – one that makes you turn the volume all the way up, because you’ve simply never heard anything like her before. Laci will be touring and releasing a song to country radio in the Fall of 2021.

L’Achéron & François Joubert-Caillet – Marais: Quatrième livre de pièces de viole (2021) [Official Digital Download 24bit/88,2kHz]

Marin Marais published his Quatrième Livre de Pièces de Viole two years after the death of Louis XIV, establishing himself as the undisputed master of the genre and providing pieces not only for musicians who had achieved some skill on the viol but also for the most virtuoso players. Here Marais reshaped the classical forms, altering the traditional sequence for the suites and making an increasing use of character pieces. The sometimes whimsical imagery and the new freedom of form that these pieces contain reach their peak in the astonishing Suitte d’un goût étranger; these thirty or so pieces employ as yet unheard-of keys and offer a multitude of characters and representations that can tend towards the exotic. Breaking further new ground, and somewhat influenced by the Italian trio, Marais ended the Quatrième Livre with two suites for three viols, a genre he claimed to be new to France.

The 1735 fire that destroyed the library of Thuringia’s Rudolstadt Castle was a dreadful loss: the vast majority of Philipp Heinrich Erlebach’s manuscripts went up in flames, and of the thousands of works collected there, only 70 survived the blaze. These included operas, whole annual cycles of cantatas, masses and oratorios. Some copies were distributed here and there and still survive, but we can only mourn the fact that only single versions of the majority of these manuscripts existed. Well… What more can be said? Let’s welcome the release of these six sonatas for trio of violin, viola da gamba and basso continuo, all played by François Joubert-Caillet’s Achéron ensemble in which the leader plays the bass viola continuo. Erlebach’s style and writing largely borrows from the French and Italian novelties that were taking all of Germany, Bach included, by storm. These six sonatas have a particularly Italian flavour, hinted at in the name given on the 1694 edition: “Filippo Henrico”.  Virtuosity, elegance, spirit and refinement all combine making Erlebach the missing link between the early German baroque of Schein and Schütz and the great Johann Sebastian.

In his Musick’s Monument of 1676, Thomas Mace described in great detail numerous aspects of contemporary musical life in London. This volume evokes all the characteristics of English music, going back to the most glorious years of the Renaissance, with a particular emphasis on the repertory written for consort of viols. While his writings describe the performing practices of the time, they also provide invaluable information on instrument making, which has enabled L’Achéron to build a ‘set’ of six viols following Mace’s indications.

Francesco Antonio Bonporti (1672-1749) was a priest first and musician second: a ‘gentiluomo di Trento’ as he described himself on the title page of his Op.1 trio sonatas. Chamber music continued to be Bonporti’s preferred creative outlet, at a time when cantatas and increasingly operas obtained wider favour, and his increasingly strenuous attempts to gain royal or aristocratic preferment by dedicating and sending his works to kings, queens and princes proved ever fruitless: he died as he worked, a humble cleric.
