A great lost chapter in the Larry Mizell story – a record that’s not nearly as well known as Mizell-produced jams for Bobbi Humphrey or Johnny Hammond, but which is every bit as great! Roger Glenn’s a funky flute player with a really great groove – California groovy, with just a touch of Latin – served up here with some great Mizell-infused touches – that rolling rhythm on the bottom, soaring instrumentation on the top, and some great Latin elements that are wrapped up warmly in the fusion! There’s plenty of great keyboards, too – played both by Larry Mizell, and also by Mark Soskin – a range of Fender Rhodes, Arp, mini-moog, and more – all adding in the right sort of warmth to Roger’s flute, and the album’s rich array of percussion. The Eno brothers (Brian and Roger) will release a deluxe digital version of their collaborative LP Mixing Colours, which debuted this past March. Wednesday, they dropped the video for “Manganese.”
The expanded edition, out July 17th, includes six new tracks along with “Pewter,” previously only issued as a bonus track in Japan. The new song titles are color-based as well: “Moss,” “Violet,” “Vermilion,” “Marble” and “Malachite.” A 12″ EP, Luminous, containing all seven of the new tracks, will be available on August 14th; a special version with a sun yellow vinyl copy will be released exclusively to smaller music retailers in an effort to support them during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Roger Marcel Cicero Ciceu (6 July 1970 – 24 March 2016) was a German jazz and pop musician. He is interpreted the sound and spirit of the swing era for contemporary audiences, upholding the family traditions established by his father, renowned jazz pianist Eugene Cicero. In 2003 he founded the Roger Cicero Quartet as well as an 11-member big band, both of them adherents to traditional jazz idioms but with lyrics in their leader’s native German tongue. After releasing the 2006 album Good Morning Midnight in collaboration with pianist Julia Hülsmann, Cicero issued his solo debut, Männersachen, later that same year… This “Best Of” compilation includes the studio and live tracks recorded beetween 2006-2016.

This programme dedicated to Joaquín Rodrigo includes a pair of his landmark works, recorded in the late 1970s by Spanish 10-string guitarist Narciso Yepes working with two different orchestras led by García Navarro. The Fantasía is a 1978 performance from the English Chamber Orchestra while the Concierto de Aranjuez is from a 1979 recording with the Philharmonia Orchestra. Both orchestras bring out the best in Rodrigo’s music, with its astounding ability to evoke feelings and visualizations of rural Spain and its romantic past.
