When I first saw the ‘Forever Young’ video back in 1991, I knew that Tyketto would become one of my all time favorite AOR bands – especially after hearing the rest of their stunning debut in “Don’t Come Easy”! Now, some 26 years later, the stirring passion of that release is captured on this superb live album filmed at the Frontiers Rock Festival IV this year. Recorded back to front with 3 extra songs in ‘Rescue Me’ (from sophomore “Strength In Numbers” in 1994), ‘Dig In Deep’ (from “Dig In Deep” in 2012) and ‘Reach’ (taken from the latest 2016 release), this stunning performance captures all the greatness of Tyketto – along with a new found fire in their kick ass cowboy rock! Still with founders vocalist / guitarist Danny Vaughn and Michael Clayton on drums – both of whom are incidentally smoking here – the newer members in bassist Chris Childs, along with guitar wizard Chris Green and keyboardist Ged Rylands put out a show stopping set that brings back the glory of my personal favorites like the kicking ‘Seasons’ or the heart breaking ballad ‘Standing Alone’, reflecting both contrast yet outstanding catchiness inherent in both these songs that I still listen to to this day. Of course, the international crowd flocking to Milan here seem to also share that view (judging by their rapture) which in turn fires the band to belt out these numbers in precision style and passion of their own! Of course, the best (or first) is kept till last in the anthemic emotion of ‘Burning Down Inside’ with the crowd singing along to Vaughn’s own soulful highs as well as those heavenly guitars and by the time the band hit ‘Forever Young’ I am in tears, with memories and joy flooding through uncontrollably. Given the primo sound quality, “Live From Milan 2017” is an absolute must for any Tyketto fan along with any AOR lover seeking a top notch live release this year – it’s simply impossible not to recommend.

There’s a sense of continuity that runs through the music that San Francisco’s Scott Hansen makes as Tycho. But Weather, his follow-up to 2016’s Epoch, marks a major shift: It’s his first album to feature vocals—not just massaging them into the mix, but setting them front and centre. That’s hardly unusual for Tycho’s brand of chill, but where his peers might recruit a rotating cast of featured singers, Weather’s eight vocal tracks are all the work of just one person: Saint Sinner, a.k.a. Hannah Cottrell—a Texas singer-songwriter with very little on record until now. Hansen had wanted to work with a singer for years, but nothing had ever clicked. With Cottrell, things were different, and before long a handful of demos had turned into an entire album. “I just kind of followed her on her trip,” Hansen tells Apple Music. “I wanted this to be somebody nobody had ever heard of. I was just like, this isn’t a feature, this is literally what Tycho is right now.” Through each of the album’s tracks, Hansen tells us more about that transformation.

From humble beginnings for Parisian label Kitsune back in 2010, the sub-pop of Two Door Cinema Club has reached great heights thanks to their albums Beacon, Gameshow and most of all, their debut, Tourist History. Now with False Alarm, Alex Trimble’s vocals continue to collide in sweet harmony with the band’s contemporary arrangement of synths, acoustic drums and undertones of tropical instrumentation – bear in mind that TDCC never stray too far from the poppy realms of disco either. Highlights include the radical ’80s charm of “Satisfaction Guaranteed” (think Sting or Hall & Oates) to “Satellite” and the oddly, stylisticly French ballad that is “Break”. Good times roll!

Although Twisted Sister’s final studio album wasn’t as commercially successful as its predecessors, it is still Twisted in every way and a great record. The album was supposed to be a Dee Snider solo record, but Atlantic forced Dee’s hand and had the album released under the Twisted Sister name. Apparently, Dee Snider’s Twisted Sister band mates didn’t actually play on the album. “Love Is For Suckers” was put together by Snider, Ronni Le Tekro (guitarist for TNT), Reb Beach (the soon to be guitarist for Winger), and producer Beau Hill. But since Dee Snider wrote all of Twisted Sister’s material, the songwriting style on “Love Is For Suckers” wasn’t a far cry from Twisted Sister’s previous work.
