Veteran pianist Hank Jones is hardly slowing down at the age of 87, as heard on this beautifully recorded session in early 2006. With drummer Jimmy Cobb (who sticks to brushes) and Christian McBride rounding out his potent trio, Jones keeps old warhorses like “On Green Dolphin Street” fresh, giving ample space to his partner and adding a humorous detour into Billy Strayhorn’s “Rain Check.” Other highlights include his elegant treatment of his late brother Thad’s timeless ballad “A Child Is Born” and a hard driving take of Charlie Parker’s “Confirmation.” McBride shows depth beyond his years with strong accompaniment and swinging solos. This Hybrid Super Audio CD, recorded without any gimmickry such as remixing or compression, enables the listener to enjoy these intimate performances as if sitting in the studio with the players. Highly recommended!

101 Strings Orchestra was a brand for a highly successful easy listening symphonic music organization, with a discography exceeding 150 albums and a creative lifetime of around 30 years beginning in 1957. 101 Strings had a trademark sound, focusing on melody with a laid-back ambiance most often featuring strings. Their LPs were individualized by the slogan “The Sound of Magnificence.” The 101 Strings orchestra included 124 string instruments, and was conducted by Wilhelm Stephan.

It is amplified distance, urgency coaxed from life on pause. The future without future. Under the Summs is the beginning of a new arc of music from 65days. If the Wreckage Systems stream is the infinite, endless soundtrack to now (and it is), then these accompanying releases that we cut out of it are the disjunctions. The breaks in the transmission. Anchors, too heavy to be dragged away into the fog of digital ephemerality.

The 1994 album “Where It All Begins” was the eleventh and last studio album the group recorded with original founder/guitarist Dickey Betts. It contains Betts’ over 9 minutes song “Back Where It All Begins” with a melodic guitar duel by Warren Haynes and Betts. Another favorite is called “No One Left To Run With” by Greg Allman with a recognizable Bo Diddly riff. Another high-lite of the album is Warren Haynes concert and fan favorite “Soulshine”. In the United States the album reached the GOLD status!

Eat a Peach is a 1972 double album by American rock band the Allman Brothers Band, containing a mix of live and studio recordings. Following their artistic and commercial breakthrough with the release of the live album At Fillmore East (1971), the Allman Brothers Band got to work on their third studio album. Many in the band were struggling, however, with heroin addictions, and checked into rehab to confront these problems. On October 29, 1971, group leader and founder Duane Allman was killed in a motorcycle accident in the band’s hometown of Macon, Georgia, making it the final album to feature the guitarist. Produced by Tom Dowd, the album was released on February 12, 1972, in the United States by Capricorn Records. It was the band’s fourth album since their debut The Allman Brothers Band in 1969, and is their third studio album and second live album.

Since its inception as the “First Annual American Jazz Festival” in 1954, the Newport Jazz Festival set the standard for large scale outdoor summer music gatherings.
