Jenő Takács’ works have accompanied generations of beginner instrumental students on their first foray into contemporary music. But also with his works like the Concerto for Piano, Strings, and Percussion Jenö Takács clearly placed himself in a line with the great paragons Béla Bartók and Zoltán Kodály. Getting to know Bártok further increased the Hungarian element (topicality, rhythm, bitonality) in his compositions. With the impressionist coloring and the influences of Hungarian folk music, studying with Joseph Marx added a strict contrapuntal note to his works. Jenö Takács was a humanist, a “musical cosmopolitan”, an eyewitness of almost the entire 20th century.

Nils Mönkemeyers letztes Album “Vivaldi – Paganini – Tartini” erhielt exzellente Rezensionen und gelangte wie alle seine vergangenen Alben in die deutschen Klassik-Charts. Rbb Kultur wählte das Album zur CD der Woche und nannte Mönkemeyer bei dieser Gelegenheit “einen der führenden Solisten unserer Zeit” und lobte das intelligent gewählte Repertoire mit zahlreichen Neuheiten.
Auf dem neuen Album von Mönkemeyer, welches er mit Pianist William Youn einspielte, sind nur Ersteinspielungen zu hören, die speziell für Nils Mönkemeyer und William Youn von Komponistin Konstantia Gourzi geschrieben wurden.
Mit der 1962 geborenen, in München lebenden Komponistin Konstantia Gourzi sind beide Musiker befreundet, alle drei verbindet eine besondere Liebe zur Natur. Einen Bezug zur Natur haben auch fast alle Werke auf dem Album “Whispers”. Denn Konstantia Gourzi möchte mit ihrer Musik Wertschätzung und Sensibilität für die Natur vermitteln und inspirieren, über die Schönheit der Natur nachzudenken. Stücke wie “call of the bees”, “messages between trees” oder “melodies from the sea” lassen durch ausdrucksstarke Klangfiguren, Rhythmen, Tempi und Timbres die Geschichten und Stimmen von Walen, Bienen, Wellen und Bäumen erahnen. Der Großteil der Werke auf dem Album ist für Bratsche und Klavier geschrieben. Es gibt aber auch stimmungsvolle Soli für Bratsche bzw. Klavier wie “wind whispers””. Die Komponistin selbst ist bei zwei Werken Teil der Aufnahme. Auf “evening at the window II” sowie “melodies from the sea” spielt Konstantia Gourzi Schlagzeuginstrumente.
“Whispers” ist ein Album mit interessanten, klangvollen, atmosphärischen Musikstücken und einem aktuellen Bezug zu einem wichtigen Thema unserer Zeit.

The composers of these 20th-century Italian works were all associated with the cello from a young age. Their deep understanding of the instrument reveals itself in three contrasting concertante pieces where soloist and orchestra collaborate to explore a wide range of colours and moods, and whose slow movements are among the most beautiful each composer ever wrote. Malipiero viewed the soloist in his concerto as a voice rising in a crowd; the mysterious and autumnal L’Olmeneta is the largest and most individual of Ghedini’s cello works; and Casella’s Notturno e tarantella is a sunny piece, expertly orchestrated.

Nicanor Zabaleta Zala (San Sebastián, 7 de enero de 1907-San Juan, Puerto Rico; 31 de marzo de 1993) fue un músico, solista de arpa y educador español.
Nació en San Sebastián, Guipúzcoa, España, el 7 de enero de 1907. En 1914 su padre, un músico aficionado, le compró un arpa en una tienda de antigüedades. Se trasladó muy joven a Madrid donde recibió lecciones de música con Vicenta Tormo de Calvo y Luisa Menárquez en el conservatorio de la capital. En 1925 se mudó a París, donde cursó estudios con Marcel Tournier y Jacqueline Borot. Al año siguiente dio su primer concierto en París. Después de su debut europeo viajó a los Estados Unidos, donde se estrenó ante el público norteamericano en 1934. Durante un concierto en Puerto Rico en 1950, conoció a Graziela, con quien se casaría dos años más tarde.
