At the ripe age of 15, after a very early start in his
professional music career recording his first album
with the Scorpions and after joining UFO age 17,
Michael Schenker focused exclusively on lead guitar
and pure self-expression.
The second chapter in his career was focused on
experimenting and developing his expertise on
a more musical and personal level.
With excellent musicians,
friends and fans from all over the world,
this live recording is part of this celebration.
Schenker sees his music as a building block
in the construction of the Temple Of Rock.
A concert from Tilburg, the Netherlands was recorded
in May 2012 that noticeably distinguishes itself
from previous releases due to the line-up that includes
Michael Schenker, Doogie White, Herman Rarebell,
Francis Buchholz and Wayne Findley.

Santana Greatest Hits: Live at Montreux 2011 is presented on Blu-ray courtesy of Eagle Rock Entertainment with an AVC encoded 1080i transfer in 1.78:1. These Montreux concerts typically look very sharp on Blu-ray, at least those from the last couple of years or so, and this Santana outing is no exception. Aside from some very minor posterizing which crops up due to some incredibly robust red and blue lighting, which bathes the entire stage in overwrought hues, this is a very sharp and appealing looking high definition presentation which pops especially well in the many close-ups which capture Carlos and his incredible band in a very up close and personal way. Fine detail is exceptional in these close-ups, so much so that you can virtually count the freckles on Cindy Blackman Santana’s face during her guest appearance on a couple of numbers. Midrange and far range shots are a tad murky by comparison, and some of the extremely wide angle shots which capture the entire huge audience are hampered by a lack of shadow detail in the backgrounds if not outright crush.

Let The Music Play The Story of The Doobie Brothers (+Bonus) 2012 720p MBluRay x264-LOUNGE
The Doobie Brothers are one of the very few bands in rock history that radically altered their sound part way through their careers and managed to not just maintain their popularity but actually build on it. The first iteration of the group worked in a sort of California folk rock ambience that highlighted Tom Johnston’s energetic and occasionally gravelly vocals, along with layered backups that were redolent of other big west coast acts of that era. The band churned out a number of huge hits, including “Listen to the Music”, “Jesus is Just All Right With Me”, and “Black Water”. But just at the absolute height of their success, Johnston became very ill and ultimately withdrew from the band. The suits and bean counters at Warner Brothers, as well as most of the band itself, were convinced that the glory days were over. But rather incredibly Michael McDonald came on board and reinvented the band’s sound in a much more sophisticated, urban “blued eyed soul” milieu that gave The Doobies a second lease on life and offered the public some of the band’s most enduring hits, including classics like “What A Fool Believes” and “Minute By Minute”.

They will be joined by internationally renowned lighting designer Patrick Woodroffe, who worked on the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the London 2012 Olympic Games. I have always been astounded that so many beginning musicians begin their musical explorations on the guitar. Despite being an at least competent pianist, I have never been able to master the fretboard technique to really be able to eke out even the most basic chords on the guitar. I blame my somewhat stubby fingers for this inability, but of course my more musically astute colleagues point out that I have no problem voicing extremely complex chords on the piano with those same stubby fingers. Perhaps it’s the more “graph like” quality of voicing items on the guitar that throws me off, or something endemic to actual guitar technique. I might have had better luck had I adopted Stanley Jordan’s innovative, almost keyboard-esque, approach: instead of using his left hand to finger notes and his right hand to strum, Jordan exploits the “tapping” technique where he uses both hands to play the fretboard almost like a pianist percussively presses the keys. Surprisingly, Jordan’s approach doesn’t result in an overly staccato sound, and in fact there are beautifully sustained legato passages in a lot of Jordan’s work. This 2007 Paris concert, part of in-Akustik’s New Morning (a Paris nightclub) Blu-ray series, finds the guitarist and his ace band in fine form as they move through both originals and standards.

Now a mere cleaning man at the Bolshoi, he learns by accident that the Ch�telet Theater in Paris invites the Bolshoi orchestra to play there. He decides to gather together his former musicians and to perform in Paris in the place of the current Bolshoi orchestra. As a solo violin player to accompany his old Jewish or Gypsy musicians he wants Anne-Marie Jacquet, a young virtuoso. winner of the Van Cliburn International
Piano Competition Gold Medal in 2009
appeared on the stage of Carnegie Hall.
His dream had come true.
Arguably the most important event in
the career of any performer,
for Nobu it was a miracle.
With his brilliant technique and
beautiful tone, he contrasts
familiar warhorses with newer pieces,
including one of his own compositions,
written in memory of the victims of the
Japanese earthquake and tsunami
in March 2011. Nobu brought the
usually reserved Carnegie Hall
audience to its feet.
