Foo Fighters frontman and former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl directs this documentary about Los Angeles’ Sound City Studios which specialised in analog recording. Following the closure of the studio in 2011 due to the growing demand for digital recording, Grohl assembled a number of artists, including Josh Homme, Trent Reznor, Paul McCartney and Stevie Nicks, to give interviews and performances while contributing to the creation of a new album.

Act 1 is Tarja’s first ever solo live video product in her rock/metal outfit – probably her most spectacular release ever. The main content was filmed on two show nights March 2012 in Rosario, Argentina, at the Teatro El Círculo, a beautiful and breathtaking theatre setting.
With its elaborate tracklisting, Act 1 provides the full-fledged bill of fare to any Tarja fan. The tracklisting consists of Tarja’s greatest solo tracks, some Nightwish classics like Nemo , or the cover versions Over The Hills And Far Away (Gary Moore) and Phantom Of The Opera (Andrew Lloyd Webber). The 2DVD also includes the song Tired Of Being Alone , which Tarja wrote with Schiller – or to make it short: a unique blend of music selection.
The set up of these concerts meant an incredible amount of extra work and effort in the live production – with an impressive result, but also an emotional rollercoaster-ride. Says Turunen: Those two nights in Rosario were a huge emotional drive to me personally.
The artist herself admits, she was ready to burst into tears many times.

Nearly 40 summers ago on August 31, 1970, 35-year-old Leonard Cohen was awakened at 2 a.m. from a nap in his trailer and brought onstage to perform with his band at the third annual Isle Of Wight music festival. The audience of 600,000 was in a fiery and frenzied mood, after turning the festival into a political arena, trampling the fences, setting fire to structures and equipment – and stoked by the most incendiary performance of Jimi Hendrix’s career.
As Cohen followed Hendrix’s set, onlookers (and fellow festival headliners) Joan Baez, Kris Kristofferson, Judy Collins and others stood side-stage in awe as the Canadian folksinger-songwriter-poet-novelist quietly tamed the crowd. Academy Award-winning documentary filmmaker Murray Lerner (From Mao To Mozart, Festival, Message To Love), perfectly captured Cohen’s performance. Likewise, Columbia Records staff A&R producer Teo Macero did a brilliant job of supervising the live audio recording.
This Blu-ray, transferred from the original 16mm film into High Definition, contains this new, beautiful film documentary by Lerner featuring interviews with fellow festival performers and Cohen’s classic songs, poetry and stories.
