One of the most prolific female composers of the 19th century, Fanny Hensel was also a pianist of rare talent and prodigious memory who dazzled private audiences at her concert series in her Berlin home. During her lifetime, Hensel’s career was overshadowed by the career of her brother, Felix Mendelssohn. She received much the same liberal education in the arts as Felix, and demonstrated hardly less talent than him as a musician, a linguist and an artist in her early years. Hensel’s music reflects her deep reverence for Bach and Beethoven, but it also exhibits the fine craftsmanship and lyricism associated with her brother’s music, and her own experimental and inventive approach to form and content. She allowed her music to be published only in the year before her early death at the age of 41 – which foreshadowed and probably hastened her brother’s demise – though in fact several of her pieces had already appeared in print under her brother’s name.

In All of Us, Howard’s sonic compositions become a musical language through which he responds to the calamities and destruction of the contemporary world — not reflecting or mirroring them, but speaking to them and illuminating the aural sensations they produce. There are moments in All of Us where it’s clear that Howard has scored music for films, with sweeping orchestral crescendos that could be used to mark visual denouements in works of combat cinema (for example, in the fourth track An Hour Off For Friendship). Yet largely, the tracks are bound by their collective sense of unease and our shared sense of precarity.

Günter Pauler were quick off the mark and prepared the microphones. During two (night)sessions Gergely Bogányi recorded all of the 21 Nocturnes by Frédéric Chopin – an amazing performance of concentration and musicianship! Liszt combined the whirlwind life of a virtuoso travelling all over Europe with a deep attachment to the Catholic faith and the Church. While his brilliant technique and fiery interpretations made him an unparalleled virtuoso, his sacred music, for which he was less well known, represented what was dearest in his own eyes. From 1856 onwards, he devoted himself more particularly to this field and set about reforming religious music in order to restore it to its rightful place of honour, capable of meeting the demands of conveying the divine message and mystery. His musical discourse becomes sparer but is also profoundly innovative, with many individual turns of language and harmonic daring.
Dominique Vellard turns his attention here to the lesser-known works of this period, such as Septem sacramenta or Pater noster, which exude the same serenity, the same feeling of peace and light.

Paul Delmet (1862-1904) was recognized as the greatest “chansonnier” of his time. Claude Debussy sees in him the “only truly French musician” who has captured the soul of his time.
With the tenor Enguerrand Dubroca, we propose to travel in time through 239 songs by Paul Delmet, of which only 45 had been engraved on the disc in the past.
Before the complete version is released on disc in the spring of 2022, we publish every day, for 35 weeks, on social networks and online music platforms a new song, taken from the complete recordings.
Each song will be accompanied by a chronicle which will allow the public to se more clearely the universe in which Paul Delmet bathed. Pictures from the popular art of the Belle Époque are also associated with each song.
