One bit of positive fallout from the seemingly endless glut of remastered CD reissues that fill the record store bins each Tuesday is that they sometimes offer an occasion to throw all critical objectivity to the wind. When a recording is an acknowledged classic, a writer generally has but two options — go against the grain to poke holes in its legacy, or celebrate its already known brilliance and hope there’s some piece of previously unavailable insight to be had. Well, The Isley Brothers’ 1973 soul masterpiece 3 + 3, recently cleaned up and put back into circulation by Epic/Legacy, leaves this critic no choice but to follow the path of least resistance and offer three reasons as to why it’s one of the most indisputably amazing R&B records of all time.

Heavy Water, the lockdown project from Saxon frontman Biff Byford and his son Seb Byford, is entering its second round with the follow-up album to Red Brick City (2021).
Songs with a rich groove, great riffs – a swinging collection of timeless rock’n’roll with the beautiful title “Dreams of Yesterday”. The album Dreams of Yesterday has a proud, sweaty thrust and begins with the psychedelic swinging title track: “Dreams of Yesterday”. Musically, it is not necessarily associated with the north of England – it is more reminiscent of a patchouli-scented summer night in Los Angeles.

Scary Music features an eerie collection of sound effects and frighteningly memorable performances of theme music from such well-known Hollywood horror films as Ghostbusters, The Blob, Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Beetlejuice, The Haunting, Sleepy Hollow and The Shining. Also included are themes from television series Tales from the Crypt, Dark Shadows, The Munsters, and Addams Family.
Popular songs provide yet another source for Scary Music. Two of the biggest singles of the early 1960s were one-hit wonders: the Ran-Dells’ “Martian Hop” and Bobby Pickett’s “Monster Mash”. The latest fantastic album form the Mighty Boasscats – dripping with quality songs and musicianship. “‘Are You The Person You’ve Wanted To Be?’ maintains this trend as it slips oh so easily into the listener’s ears with a laid back groove JJ Cale would be proud of. It’s reminiscent of that period when UK players were challenging the Americans as to who could be the swampiest, most soulful and grooviest, with bands like Ace and singers like Jess Roden almost winning the competition. American import Jeb Loy Nicol still flies that flag and The Mighty Bosscats are here to support him on the joysome grooves of ‘How’s It All Come To This’ and the bluesy ‘How Many Times’. Best of all is the witty take on modern dating on ‘Several Ways To Replace A Lover‘ although it has to be said that when they belt up and put on boots and braces on ‘Weatherman’ they strike out quite mightily. Overall the groove is boss here and for that Townend is to be thanked.”

The idea to dedicate an album to music from Amsterdam, where Postscript was formed, had been on our minds for some time, but it really came into focus with the beginning of the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic. We were isolating at our respective homes in Amsterdam; however, on the rare occasions that music- making was possible, we were able to do it together, since we formed a small enough group to gather safely. The hectic travel schedules that normally shaped our lives came to a halt, and we had the opportunity to spend more time in our home city, enjoying contemplative walks in the eerily now-quiet streets. It was, therefore, quite natural to keep the theme of local exploration and to base our next musical project around the city of Amsterdam, by rediscovering a part of its history that is underappreciated by both musicians and audiences today.

Morgan was born Florence Catherine Currier in Newton, Massachusetts, on May 3, 1924, one of five children born to musicians Olga (Brandenburg) and Bertram Currier. When she was four years old, the Currier family moved to Daytona Beach, Florida.[citation needed] At five she began vocal lessons while continuing piano lessons. During the summers, she took on child roles and appeared in theater productions at the Kennebunkport Playhouse in Kennebunkport, Maine, which her brother had founded. In 1941, she was listed as the Treasurer of the Kennebunkport Playhouse. While attending grade school, Morgan actively engaged in singing and competing against other students throughout Florida and the Southeast.[citation needed] After graduating from Seabreeze High School, she was accepted into New York’s Juilliard School of Music. Described as one of the most engaging groups to emerge from the esoteric 1960s, The Incredible String Band was essentially the duo of Mike Heron and Robin Williamson. Their sound was comprised of haunting Celtic folk melodies augmented by a variety of Middle Eastern and Asian instruments. During the summer of 1968, The Incredible String Band played a remarkable concert at the legendary Fillmore East venue in New York. The concert was recorded by the venue’s sound desk. This is a 24-bit remaster, approved by the band, taken from that original 1968 concert tape.
