Gasfire Rag is the second album from Italian blues duo the Gutbuckets, a group dedicated to discovering and rearranging traditional African-American music that emerged from New Orleans and the Mississippi Delta, particularly between the 1920s and the 1940s. The band is composed of vocalists and multi-instrumentalists Antonio Speciale and Mario Evangelista, joined by Valerio Mazzoni on trumpet and bassist Maurizio Costantini.

Esce ufficialmente il 15 novembre «Gasfire Rag», nuovo lavoro discografico dei The Gutbuckets, duo composto dai musicisti Mario Evangelista e Antonio Speciale, formazione che attinge a piene mani dalle radici antiche del blues e dall’incontro di questa musica con il ragtime, il dixieland ed il folk appalachiano. Coprodotto da Toscana 100 band e Giovani Sì (concorso indetto dalla Regione Toscana in favore della musica originale e indipendente), l’album ha guadagnato la cinquantunesima posizione, permettendo alla formazione, che ha la sua base a Firenze, di stampare l’album in vinile 180 grammi e registrare presso il Jambona Lab di Cascina (PI). «Gasfire Rag» è impreziosito dall’importante contributo grafico dall’artista Rocco Lombardi, autore di fumetti, silent novel e opere visuali intensamente suggestionate dal rapporto tra uomo e natura.
IL DISCO – «Gasfire Rag» vede il dobro, la chitarra acustica, il mandolino e il banjo di Evangelista e Speciale dialogare con una formazione ampliata, comprendente Valerio Mazzoni (tromba), Maurizio Costantini (contrabbasso) e Antonio Scioli (tuba). Il disco si divide esattamente a metà fra brani originali (Bring back the bush, Hipster Girl, Walkin’ in the kitchen, Gasfire Rag, My Sweet Mary, That’s Our Blues) e brani della tradizione afroamericana che spaziano dalle rilassate e goderecce atmosfere di New Orleans, in Sadie Green, al jug blues di You May Leave, grande classico della Memphis Jug Band.
