The Gambian / Norwegian Friendship Orchestra (established 1980 in Bergen) was a jazz group with musicians from Western Norway and The Gambia, known as one of the first national initiatives in world music. The cast consisted of vocalists and percussionists Ebou Secka, Kabirr M’bye, Zahir M’bye, Segou Camara, Demba Jobarteh, Miki N’doye. On the Norwegian side were percussionist Helge Linaae, saxophonists Erik Balke, Olav Dale, Vidar Johansen, trumpeters Stein Holdhus and Per Jorgensen, Harald Halvorsen trombone, guitarist Ole Thomsen and Sveinung Hovensjoe bass, as well as Knut Kristiansen piano who was the initiator of the project.

They gave a number of concerts and performances on national television, including a performance in Grieghallen on the 2nd. October 1982, which was released on the disc Friendship (Odin Records 1982; Douglass Phonodisc in the USA). Continuation can be found among others.a. in collaboration Ebou Secka’s “Woloff Experience” and Ola Kvernberg Trio(Moldejazz 2005).
