Here’s a cool idea. A new compilation album released November 9th by Warner Music/Rhino called 80s Symphonic will combine 80s original recordings with orchestral arrangements. Featuring David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance”, Foreigner’s “I Want To Know What Love Is”, The Cars “Drive” and several more, original elements from the multi-tracks of the actual recording get combined with new orchestral arrangements.

There was something special about this Swiss festival: it highlighted amateurs, in this case those who honor jazz in the word’s Latin sense (amator) – they played for the love of the music. On the original LP, the title of the album is printed as “20. Internationales Jubiläums Jazz Festival Zurich” on front cover, “Jazz Festival In Zurich” on spine and “Zurich Jazz Festival 1970” on center labels.

George Gershwin was an American composer and pianist, whose compositions spanned both popular and classical genres. Among his best-known works are the orchestral compositions Rhapsody in Blue (1924) and An American in Paris (1928), the songs “Swanee” (1919) and “Fascinating Rhythm” (1924), the jazz standards “Embraceable You” (1928) and “I Got Rhythm” (1930), and the opera Porgy and Bess (1935), which included the hit “Summertime”.
