Tine Thing Helseth performs the four pieces featured on this her debut recording with natural spontaneity and a unique quality of sound, interpreting the most famous of these the Haydn concerto with authority and a phenomenal variation of colour in her sound. Alongside the internationally acclaimed Norwegian Chamber Orchestra she presents a reading that sets a new standard for this concerto. The music is captured in transparent and brilliant Hybrid SACD sound (and plays on all CD players) in Jar church, Oslo.
Born in 1987, Tine belongs to a new generation of Norwegian soloists and indeed a new generation of brass soloists all together, who are more influenced by the idiom of string players and singers than used to be the case. Tine’s approach to music is refreshingly focused and straightforward – with an extra touch of artistic magic that reaches everyone who hears her playing. Her studies with Arnulf Naur Nilsen of the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra have further strengthened her natural abilities as a performer and communicator.
In 2006 Tine was awarded 2nd Prize in the 2006 Eurovision Young Musicians finale in Vienna. Her fresh, effortless and musical playing amazed and exited both audience and jury. Orchestras and conductors responded immediately to this extraordinary talent, resulting in a number of appearances as soloist with orchestras both in Europe and in Asia.

This new recording of Norwegian trumpeter Tine Thing Helseth releases is deeply personal; made up of Helseth’s favorite pieces which explore the full sound, range, and moods of the instrument. It includes music she remembers hearing during her childhood such as Lindberg’s Gammal Fäbodpsalm från Dalarna and Purcell’s Trumpet Tune in C major as well as modern songs for special occasions such as Sjöberg’s Den första gång jag såg dig – a Swedish love song translated as “The First Time I Saw You”. The programme includes Marcello, Telemann, Grieg, Moraeus, Lindberg, Sommerro and many more. Tine Thing Helseth says: “This is a very personal album to me. Whilst I was growing up my mother also played the trumpet, and many of these pieces are works that I listened to laying on the floor next to the organ whilst she was at rehearsals. She took me from when I was 6 weeks old! Other tracks are just lovely melodies and songs that people often use on special occasions: happy or sad. So, the album is filled with my musical memories and my hope is that it will bring musical memories to the listeners as well”.

Tine Thing Helseth is back with a new release – this time together with Ensemble Allegria. Helseth and Allegria have had a close association for many years and have appeared together at the Bergen International Festival, the Northern Lights Festival in Tromsø, the Oslo Chamber Music Festival, and on the main stage at the Norwegian National Opera. This release features some familiar as well as lesser known works for trumpet and string orchestra by composers from Norway and abroad, with the first four written for this instrumentation, while the last three were arranged by Jarle Storløkken.
