Live at The Princess Theatre, Brisbane December 19th 2021.

It was a miracle this show happened. We’d planned 5 night residencies in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Hobart, Adelaide and the Brisbane jaunt was the only one which wasn’t cancelled. Well… it was cancelled, but not ‘til night four. In hilariously unlucky circumstances I had severe food poising the night before night one. Laying on the cold tiles in a puddle of my own sweat, I asked myself “how and I supposed to play a show tomorrow?” I ran to the toiled to vomit green stomach bile once again and shat myself on the way. It raced down my leg and made a reverberant “slap” as it landed on the carpet. “This show is gonna be interesting.” And it was. The music was healing. A purge. Melodic medicine. Injected by my gizzard comrades and propelled by the punters enthusiasm, the vibrations warmed the body and soothed the stomach. And now, a spoonful of miracle for all of you. Love stu xox.

Another KGLW album? No, Butterfly 3001 is a double album of Butterfly 3000 remixes released in June 2021. Here, electro heavyweights with very distinct universes take on the Australians. And it starts very strong, with DJ Shadow at the helm of Black Hot Soup and the Jamaican producer Scientist on Shanghai, sung by Ambrose Kenny-Smith. Hopetown Brown: “I’ve always wanted to apply my dub mixing techniques to music outside of the typical ‘reggae mould.’ Their music and especially Shanghai provided me with the perfect landscape to be able to create something rich and exciting. If Butterfly 3000 was already the most electro chapter of the septet’s prolific discography, its successor allows the KGLW to hatch a constantly offbeat project. “We put off the idea of ​​making a remix record for a long time,” admits guitarist Joey Walker. “Maybe it was conscious, maybe it wasn’t. But it’s happening now. That doesn’t mean that Butterfly 3000 is the most logical album to remix. This may seem obvious, but no. Yes, it’s electronic. But as much as a fridge. Have you tried dancing to Butterfly? Impossible, it’s as if your shoelaces were tied together. It is deviously simple. And Butterfly 3001 manages to exceed that. We don’t know if Butterfly 3001 is easier to dance to, but the diversity of the cast offers the luxury of eclecticism: the Flaming Lips on the psych-pop Ya Love, Peaches on the modular Neu Butterfly 3000, Aurelia Kaitlyn Smith on the synthetic patchwork Catching Smoke, to whom Dâm-Funk offered a more groovy reading a few tracks earlier, the rising star of lo-fi house Mall Grab or even the rarest Hieroglyphic Being. It was worth the wait.

On the album’s titular track, the words are sung from the perspective of someone who is on the verge of getting very drunk, but still has the mental capacity to realize the booze is keeping him from being able to get an erection.

The dampened coloring of the sound is a result of the band recording the song onto 4 iPhones. Sound on Sound magazine described the song as being like.

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard surprised fans on Wednesday with the release of a new live album featuring recordings from the band’s milestone shows at Red Rocks Amphitheatre. Entitled Live At Red Rocks ’22, the album includes a staggering 86 tracks from KGLW’s first-ever shows at the iconic Colorado venue, where they played three-hour marathon sets on October 10th and 11th and November 2nd, 2022.
