Gypsy is arguably the best progressive rock n roll band that originated in Minnesota from The Underbeats to Gypsy after Jim Johnson’s Viet Nam tour of duty with the infamous 4th Infantry. He not only served our country after being drafted but when in ‘Nam, toured forward bunkers with the winner of a Presidential Medal of Honor “Maggie” aka Martha Raye. True Patriot, Jim Johnson, returned to Mpls, took his band to the West Coast and fulfilled his promise. They replaced Chicago at The Whiskey A-Go-Go, when CTA toured to promote their first LP. Gypsy followed in their footsteps, being allowed to issue a Double-LP for their debut LP. It is going to be released later this year……stay tuned! MN Mike Chase, historian of MN & Upper Midwest Music.
