FEUERSCHWANZ have gained an outstanding position in the German metal landscape over the past few years and are undoubtedly considered one of the hottest bands on the scene! This status is once again manifested by the brand new studio album Purgatory, which will be released on July 7, 2023 via Napalm Records. Fegefeuer is the successor of the enormously successful predecessor Memento Mori (2021), with which FEUERSCHWANZ entered the official German album charts at #1 without any detours. Right after the release, the band played excellent co-headline sets for the first time at some of the biggest and most important festivals, such as the legendary Wacken Open Air and the Summer Breeze, topped off by an almost completely sold-out tour. With Purgatory, FIRETAIL are now providing another proof of their status! And of course, the well-known wink and the fun factor are not neglected on the new record either. On the new album, the band around founding member and singer Hauptmann Feuerschwanz, songwriter, singer and multi-instrumentalist Hodi, as well as Johanna on the violin, combines their medieval-inspired folk metal with heavy metal influences. Already the opener “SGFRD Dragonslayer” starts directly as a pure heavy metal anthem. Lyrical allusions to the legendary dragon slayer Siegfried are combined with hard riffing and Nordic mythology. On the second track “Bastard by Asgard” FEUERSCHWANZ receive support from Eluveitie singer Fabienne Erni. The catchy party anthem “Berzerkermode” invites you to mead and rum at a Viking party. Especially the first three album tracks and the epic “Highlander” are the best proof of the band’s development from comedy rock to metal. Other songs, such as the intense title track “Purgatory”, the Lord of the Rings battle cry “Uruk-Hai” and “The Horde” go straight to the heart of the band’s longtime fans. FEUERSCHWANZ remain lyrically true to each other on Purgatory, sing about long-forgotten legends, heroic battles and shine with outstanding musical abilities, including excellent songwriting. The album will be available in various formats. Some of these include the live bonus album Live in Wacken 2022, which contains a recording of the co-headline show from the Holy Ground. With the new release, FEUERSCHWANZ are pushing the previous work to the extreme for the time being and in the same breath are already fueling tension and anticipation of all that will be expected in the future.

Over the course of the past 15 years, FEUERSCHWANZ have not only become one of the hottest bands in Folk Rock, but also made a name for themselves as being the most entertaining in the genre. Having paved their way to the top by persistence, relentless touring as well as delivering top notch album after album, the sextet is now reaching for the stars with their newest effort, Das elfte Gebot (The eleventh commandment). Being known for tongue-in-cheek lyrics, catchy tunes and quite some hedonism, FEUERSCHWANZ have even stepped up their already flawless game on album #9 with a heavier, more in-your-face approach. “The message of our lyrics comes from our hearts, is extremely important to us which is why they’re put quite clearly without beating around the bush. A clear message needs an adequate sound”, states singer Prinz “Hodi” Hodenherz. And a bold sound they deliver. Nods to legends like Iron Maiden, Testament or even modern bands like Ghost or Gloryhammer, mixed in with the very unique FEUERSCHWANZ trademark sound, make Das elfte Gebot a direct and intense sonic experience. Still, the band hasn’t lost their experimental touch which also comes to show on “Lords Of Powermet”. The band’s first song to also feature English lyrics is about a group of religious fanatics who worship the “holy horn” – an epic yet heavy ode to their own cheekiness.

Simple humour is not uncommon in the music world. It’s even less uncommon in the world of Metal with bands dabbling in everything from Old Norse Tales, to Sea Shanties. Feuerschwanz (formed in 2004) mixes all of those elements together, creating their own tales of far off adventures, heroic deeds, and battles fought. Their latest album, ‘Memento Mori’, is no different; staying true to the traditional Feuerschwanz Folk Metal influences whilst continuing their own journey through different musical realms while pushing past the expectations that came with ‘Das Elfte Gebot’…

Die Mittelalter Rock / Power Metal-Band FEUERSCHWANZ hat ein neues Cover-Album mit dem Titel “Todsünden” angekündigt. Darauf enthalten sind insgesamt 16 Neuinterpretationen von Songs verschiedenster Genres. Neben bisher unveröffentlichtem Material enthält die Platte auch die Stücke, die bereits als Bonus-Disc den letzten beiden Alben “Das elfte Gebot” (2020) sowie “Memento Mori” (2021) beilagen.

Reinhören kann man nun in das ABBA-Cover “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!” bei YouTube.
