Following the internationally acclaimed improvised solo piano Album The Trondheim Concert and the digital Album release The Nidaros Concert, NXN now release The Hamar Concert recorded in front of a live audience in The Hamar Concert Hall. This album is a live recording of a concert on 29 October last year in the beautiful Kirsten Flagstad Hall in Hamar, my birthplace. Like the Trondheim concert and the Nidaros concert, this concert is also completely improvised and especially characterised by the rich acoustics of the large hall.

Less than half a year since the release of The Trondheim Concert, my new solo album will be released on March 31st. This one is called The Nidaros Concert, and it is a 1 hour 45 minutes long improvised solo concert, recorded in Dokkhuset on October 10th 2022. It sounds much better than the last one, and has a quite different character as well. I will be counting the days until this release, and can’t wait to share it with you!

Espen Berg’s new, completely improvised, solo piano concert from Trondheim has some of the excitement of a Cecil Taylor concert but with so much more.
So many things change while listening to this ten part album. Moods shift from peaceful to electrifying. The pace suddenly picks up or slows down.
Melodies jump from light to dark or are merely implied. Phrases or notes are played over and over until used up and then they move on. It’s mesmerizing. It’s beautiful.
Espen Berg put out his first solo piano recording, Noctilucent, in 2012.
He put out his second, Acres of Blue in 2014. He said he started working on the solo piano format in 2004. Even though that’s a long time to work on something The Trondheim Concert is an amazing feat.
