„Überragend in seiner Kraft und Poesie“, lobte das Magazin Forum Opéra Emmanuelle Haïms Dirigat. Die Barockspezialistin hat mit ihrem Concert dʼAstrée geistliche Vokalwerke dreier französischer Komponisten des 18. Jahrhunderts aufgeführt: Jean-Philippe Rameau, André Crampa und Jean-Joseph Cassanéa de Mondonville. Alle drei Musiker waren Berühmtheiten ihrer Zeit und wirkten am französischen Königshof. Für ihr neues Album spielte Emmanuelle Haïm das Programm stilecht in der Chapelle Royale de Versailles ein.
Mit den ausgewählten Werken führt die Dirigentin von der Trauer in die Zuversicht. Haïm startet mit Campras Messe de requiem. Das Meisterwerk des französischen Hochbarocks steht ganz in der Tradition des römisch-katholischen Gedenkens der Toten. Dabei war André Campra bei seinen Pariser Zeitgenossen vor allem für opulente weltliche Werke wie Opéra-ballets bekannt. In sein Requiem baute er also beides ein: opernhafte Dramatik wie intime, andächtige Momente. Jean-Philippe Rameaus Motette In convertendo dominus dagegen zählt zu den frühen Werken des Komponisten. Er war selbst noch Organist, die Motette entstand lange vor Rameaus steiler Theaterkarriere am Hof. Als Meister der doppelchörigen Motette galt der heute fast vergessene Jean-Joseph Cassanéa de Mondonville. Das Werk In exitu Israël erzählt in einem virtuosen Feuerwerk von den Wundern des Herrn beim Auszug aus Ägypten. Das Orchester und den Chor des Concert dʼAstrée ergänzen international begehrte Solisten wie die französische Sopranistin Marie Perbost und der britische Tenor Samuel Boden.

“A great conductor,” Gramophone Magazine hailed the first album by Emmanuelle Haïm and Le Concert dʼAstrée back in 2002. In November 2021, the conductor now celebrated the 20th anniversary of her ensemble with two charity concerts in Berlin and Paris. The two anniversary concerts with excerpts from baroque operas by Handel, Rameau, Purcell, Vivaldi and Campra now appear as a live recording on the album “20 ans – Une nouvelle fête Baroque!” Saying “A 20-year anniversary and 20 years of success deserve a proper celebration,” Emmanuelle Haïm gathered on stage a who’s who of the classical scene: more than twenty renowned soloists performed, including sopranos Natalie Dessay, Sandrine Piau and Sabine Devieilhe, tenors Michael Spyres and Rolando Villazón, and bass Andrea Mastroni. Haïm’s former mentor, Sir Simon Rattle, also took the opportunity to take the baton as a guest. The conducting style of the trained harpsichordist is based on the way early music is played. Emmanuelle Haïm explains it this way: “In baroque music, the role of the conductor is within the orchestra. He plays an instrument himself and is part of the music together with the other musicians. In Le Concert dʼAstrée, everyone speaks very openly – and I’m not the only one who says what’s being done.” Her way of working is also appreciated by major symphony orchestras. And so Emmanuelle Haïm has already conducted many of the world’s leading orchestras, including the Berlin and Vienna Philharmonic Orchestras and the London Symphony Orchestra.
