Bebel Gilberto releases her new album via [PIAS] Recordings. Entitled Joao, the album is a collection of songs made famous by her father João Gilberto, widely regarded as the “father of Bossa Nova music. João Gilberto passed away in 2019 after a 70 year career in music. Bebel began singing with him as a small child and the songs she sings on this new album have been with her all her life. Says Bebel- “João” is a love letter to my father. Since my first album I’ve never really covered any of my Dad’s music. Now it’s time to present to the public the songs from João Gilberto that have influenced me since I was born- and even before”.

La fille de Joao Gilberto sort de ses cinq ans de silence discographique avec ce superbe Tudo, beau kaléidoscope de sa vision très personnelle de la musique brésilienne. Bebel Gilberto retrouve ici Mario Caldato Jr. qui avait produit son impeccable premier album, Tanto Tempo, en 2000. Alternant le portugais, l’anglais et même le français, la chanteuse fusionne ici, avec délicatesse et raffinement, tous les répertoires qui la touchent et l’ont formés, qu’il s’agisse de compositions signées de son illustre père mais aussi d’Antonio Carlos Jobim ou même de Neil Young. Elle convie également Seu Jorge à un superbe un duo. A l’arrivée, Tudo s’avère être sans doute son opus le plus attachant.

[PIAS] Recordings is thrilled to release a stunning new album by the iconic ground-breaking Brazilian artist Bebel Gilberto entitled Agora (“Now”). This is Gilberto’s first new studio album in six years and was produced by Thomas Bartlett (Sufjan Stevens, St. Vincent). “I have gone through a lot while we were writing and recording this album. I lost my best friend, then six months later my Mom and then six months after that my Dad. It was very hard for me and still is,” says Bebel Gilberto. “I took a different approach with Agora, supported by the love and confidence I received from my long-time friend and producer of the album, Thomas Bartlett. Thomas trusted me – and let me be me. The album as a result is a little bit crazier, more mature and extremely sincere.”
