A true generational icon, Aya Nakamura is the author of three successful albums, one of which (Nakamura, 2018) sold one and a half million copies, obtaining a diamond disc on national soil, and another diamond disc for export.

Aya’s success markers are more than three billion views on YouTube, including a third for the planetary hit Djadja, certified triple-diamond in France.

She collaborated with Balenciaga, broke records belonging to Edith Piaf, performed on Fortnite in front of millions of users, had her portrait taken by the Times, before making the front page of Vogue France, she went on stage alongside Alicia Keys in Bercy, and made Rihanna dance.

When Aya Nakamura unveiled the track list for her third album, excitement was at boiling point. It was announced that the album would contain the two singles, Doudou and Jolie Nana (which could already be heard all over since summer 2020) and tracks featuring English artists, namely Stormzy and Ms Banks. We were starting to think that the Bamako native was internationalising her music, drawing more and more inspiration from Nigerian afro-beat sounds so as to increase overseas appeal. But this is not the case here. Aya is definitively French-sounding with its mixing of African, Latin, Caribbean and rap rhythms in a way that is exclusive to France.

French Afrobeat and R&B singer Aya Nakamura built a significant following releasing music through her YouTube channel before her 2017 debut album reached number six on the French charts. Her rise to success was sealed a year later when “Djadja,” the lead single from her second album, became a number-one hit in France and charted throughout much of Europe.
