“FOOD”, the third project by Paolo Fresu and Omar Sosa, completes and concludes the trilogy of the two exceptional artists, including the duo’s previous releases, ALMA (2012) and EROS (2016). They are joined by rapper Kokayi from Washington DC, Cristiano de André (son of the famous Fabrizio), the Brazilian cellist Jaques Morelenbaum, the South African singer Indwe and the American master drummer Andy Narrell.

The album is dedicated to taste, aesthetics and “ethics”. And so it happened:
Over the course of a year, the sounds of restaurants and wineries were recorded, as well as the voices of those who work in these establishments. We hear the mechanical clink of presses, the delicate clink of glasses, the sounds of frying in oil, pouring wine, knives cutting vegetables, as well as the narrating voices of cooks and winemakers and patrons in Italian, Sardinian, Friulian, Spanish, French, English and Japanese. The songs on the album tell stories of recipes, culinary preferences and sociability.

The tracks were “arranged” with processed, mixed and looped field recordings, which serve as a soundtrack and through which Fresu and Sosa have composed a suite with original music – including – as an accompaniment – an arrangement of the song “A Cimma” by Fabrizio de André.

The cover artwork is a picture of fantasy researcher Diego Cusano. The face of the woman with a tomato spaghetti hat unites the Italian and the Cuban soul. “FOOD” is intended to express the joy of taste, conviviality, discovery and dialogue … but also the importance of healthy nutrition and the need to become aware of the precarious situation of sustainable food production on the planet.

“FOOD” will be released as a CD, as well as a double vinyl (180g), accompanied by a series of videos and photographs that tell the creation and development of the work through the stories of many of the protagonists. The introductory text was written by Carlo Petrin, founder of the Slow Food Association.
