Originally released in 1984, following the band’s evolution from the Southern Death Cult, to Death Cult, and then simply The Cult, Dreamtime finds the outfit featuring Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy, pivoting from their goth and punk roots into something eclectic, aspirational, and adventurous. Rife with lyrical references to the indigenous cultures of the Americas and Australia, and set against a more bombastic and muscular musical backdrop, Dreamtime hints at what would envelop the band over the next four decades, a dedication to their wholly unique songwriting, both musically and thematically, and the frenzy that was soon to come with the release of Love only a year later. “Spiritwalker,” the first single from the album, hit #1 on the U.K.’s independent chart.

With Book 3, The Chronicles of Father Robin reach the final chapter of “The Songs & Tales of Airoea”. This dynamic and soulful journey starts with the upbeat “Magical Chronicle”, a vocal driven track full of lush harmonies and clear references to prog classics such as Gentle Giant, Yezda Urfa and the Canterbury Scene. From the atmospheric “Skyslumber” and the soaring prog ballad that Yes never wrote, “Cloudship”, the album burst into the dynamic psych-rocker “Empress of the Sun”, a song full of energy and contrast eventually sliding into a keyboard lead middle part reminiscent of The Doors at their most adventurous. Finishing the album “Lost in the Palace Gardens” starts off with a beautiful acoustic guitar part brining associations to British folk bands such as Steeleye Span, but also the guitar work of a certain Jimmy Page. The track follows up with vocal parts where Andreas Prestmo and Aleksandra Morozova’s voices perfectly complement each other, making it a perfect culmination of this highly ambitious body of work where Father Robin explores the cloud lands in the Sky.

Set for release in February, and following on from last year’s reissue of the collective’s sole studio album album, WHERE NEXT? features 12 tracks that span the three producers’ respective individual careers. Among them are classics such as Function’s ‘Reykjavik’ and Regis’ ‘Man Is The Superior Animal’.
Speaking about the original era of Sandwell District, Regis, AKA Karl O’Connor, said in a statement: “Sandwell at that time was all about work, work. It was at such a rate that we often had music available that didn’t fit the moment or release schedule, but was nonetheless important and found its home on limited releases. We now have had the time to fully realise and compile what we consider the essence of the Sandwell District.”

Since their 2009 self-titled debut album, Real Estate have distinguished themselves as modern-day jangle-pop torchbearers. The New Jersey group retains that crown on the superlative Daniel, which overflows with crisp, economical pop-rock that often calls to mind the salad days of Fountains of Wayne. Chalk up this sound partly due to their influences—R.E.M.’s lush, moody Automatic for the People and the softer side of ’90s rock—and the band’s recording process. The members of Real Estate moved in together in Nashville and recorded Daniel in just nine days at the famed RCA Studio A with producer-songwriter Daniel Tashian (Kacey Musgraves’ Golden Hour). Understandably, there’s a hint of dusky Americana melancholy on the pedal steel-tinted “Haunted World” and the Scottish-pop-influenced “Flowers.” However, Martin Courtney’s keening vocals are particularly yearning on Daniel, lending buoyancy to the wiry “Say No More” and urgent “Airdrop,” and underscoring the restlessness and uncertainty coursing through the lyrics. Jangle-pop has never sounded so fresh—and so irresistible. – Annie Zaleski

While staying true to his roots as a guitarist deep in gratitude to Wes Montgomery and Grant Green, Randy Napoleon aspires to find new routes through the music and refine his already fully evolved voice. On Puppets, he teams with the prolific composer Gregg Hill, finding energy in Hill’s quirky, out of the box melodies, and arranging them to keep the spirit of the tunes while amplifying Hill’s intentions. He joins with longtime compatriots – three of the hardest swinging and creative voices in jazz, Rick Roe, Rodney Whitaker, and Quincy Davis – and features New York vocalist Aubrey Johnson on several Napoleon-penned lyrics.

After the birth of my firstborn son, Fabio, I needed some moments of retreat. The direction of my life changed from being impulsive and spontaneous to a life that was better organized and a little bit more structured. Little did I know that this new phase in my life was the kick-start for a new way to compose my music. Approaching life and music differently created new sounds, new projects and eventually, this new album PLAYGROUND.
To continue, I would love to share some of my sentiments out of which the music on PLAYGROUND was born.
The title song Playground reminds me of the feeling of being surrounded by children. Little kids playing, running in all directions, crying and laughing… The sensation of a new life, the feeling of a new start, new ideas and new hope.
At the same time in El Reto I’m talking about the great challenge of life. These are crazy times and you have to be strong, your antennas have to be very sensitive to all that’s around you in order to feel in what direction ‘sopla el viento’. Feeling which way the wind blows so that you can always be prepared.
In Fabio you will meet Ramon the father. Me taking care of my son, making sure he’s safe, teaching him about life and the dangers of it, playing and singing to him from my deepest Cuban feelings and letting him experience our Cuban roots and traditions.
In Zwana I tell the story of the love of my life and the mother of my child. It’s a tribute to our love history in a waltz tempo.
