The Gambian / Norwegian Friendship Orchestra (established 1980 in Bergen) was a jazz group with musicians from Western Norway and The Gambia, known as one of the first national initiatives in world music. The cast consisted of vocalists and percussionists Ebou Secka, Kabirr M’bye, Zahir M’bye, Segou Camara, Demba Jobarteh, Miki N’doye. On the Norwegian side were percussionist Helge Linaae, saxophonists Erik Balke, Olav Dale, Vidar Johansen, trumpeters Stein Holdhus and Per Jorgensen, Harald Halvorsen trombone, guitarist Ole Thomsen and Sveinung Hovensjoe bass, as well as Knut Kristiansen piano who was the initiator of the project.

Eliane Tapes is a series of music dedicated to the vast amount of work and the huge influence by Éliane Radigue.
For many musicians working in the field of drone (a term Radigue does not use for her music) and other forms of minimal music someway, known and unknown, the work of Eliane Radigue is an influence on what they are doing. With her work she did so many groundbreaking things that in modern electronic and electro-acoustic music her influence can’t be ignored.
All music in this series is presented as tape releases and downloads. We want to release it on tape because it used to play a major role in Eliane Radigue her early music.
Of the air was recorded in April of 2015 in Charleston, SC on an 1890 tracker organ.

Philip Catherine is one of those musicians who, throughout a prolific career, has developed a unique and authentic sound. He only needs to play a single note to be instantly recognised. He is certainly one of the greats of Belgian and European jazz. The relationship between Philip and Flagey began almost twenty years ago. It was therefore only natural that the institution should organise a concert to celebrate his seventy-fifth birthday. The selection of pieces is just as original: he revisits the numbers that appeared on his very first recording, as well as more recent works and some cover versions. On September 29, 1999, Phish played their only show at The Pyramid Arena in Memphis, TN. The Memphis Pyramid aka The Great American Pyramid is a unique and mysterious 32-story venue modeled after Giza in Egypt, opened in 1991 and used for sports and entertainment until 2004. It now houses a megastore that includes America’s tallest free standing elevator to the apex. Memphis ’99 was the 16th show on a 24-show fall tour that stretched from Vancouver to Albany. Tickets cost $25 and were still available at showtime on a Wednesday night.

1992’s ‘A Walkin’ Thing’ is the last of three albums the great American organist Shirley Scott recorded for Candid, and her final recording before her passing. First and foremost, Scott was a trained pianist, and it should be noted that towards the end of her life, she gravitated more to that instrument. But here, Scott returns to form, making this recording bitter sweet. Recorded in 1992 at the famed Van Gelder Studio in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey and engineered by Rudy Van Gelder. This recording has been remastered by legendary mastering engineer Bernie Grundman.

It’s hard to believe that at this stage of the game, Petula Clark is turning out some of the best work of her recording career – but it’s true. The lady is in her mid-80’s now, and it seems her voice refuses to age. It’s truly amazing. Yes – the voice has changed… it’s a little lower, but still instantly recognizable… still that feminine beautiful sound… still able to bounce around a melody line with ease. Hats off to those that produced this album, as it comes off as a true labor of love. I feel like these people recognize & respect the talent that IS Petula Clark, and have produced something worthy of the lady. The arrangements are stunning – a bit of classic ’60’s rock going on, but with it we get awesome strings, with the arrangements taking us places we’re not expecting them to go. THIS is how I love to hear Petula. From what I understand, these songs were written for her, and she approaches the songs with total commitment. I honestly cannot say enough good things about this new CD. I do not speak (or understand) French – but it doesn’t matter. The mere sound of her voice on this recording is enough to take me on the journey with her. She hasn’t sounded this good in years – and it is a total joy to hear her like this.
