At the time of his death, in 1741, Joseph-Hector Fiocco’s widow sold the manuscripts of the composer’s works to Joannes Vanden Boom, Dean and Chapel Master of the Cathedral Saint Michel and Saint Gudule in Brussels, where the composer had held the post of zangmeester (choirmaster) until his untimely death. Among this collection is a complete set of nine Lamentations for Holy Week for the unusual instrumentation of solo voice, obbligato cello and basso continuo. Fiocco’s Lamentations are conceived in the most elevated Italian style of the early eighteenth century. They are masterful and can compete with the most beautiful such compositions, given their dramatic power and poignant emotion. In addition to the nine Lamentations known from the abovementioned manuscript, the present recording offers in world premiere two new settings and a differently instrumented version found in the archives of the Fonds St.-Jacob in Antwerp.

An acclaimed Italian jazz pianist, composer, and educator, Enrico Pieranunzi is known for his virtuosic, classical-influenced technique, nuanced sense of harmony, and elegantly restrained approach to modern post-bop jazz. Influenced heavily by Bill Evans, Pieranunzi emerged in the 1970s leading his own trio, and quickly established himself internationally as an in-demand sideman for such jazz giants as Chet Baker, Lee Konitz, Phil Woods, and others. Along with performing, he is a dedicated teacher, having worked for many years as a full professor at the Conservatorio di Musica in Frosinone. Recognized as one of the foremost Italian jazz artists, he has garnered a handful of awards, including taking home the 1997 Django d’Or as Best European Jazz Musician and winning the 2014 German Echo Jazz Award as Best International Keyboard Artist. Pieranunzi remains a highly prolific artist, moving from trio albums like 2019’s New Visions, to conceptual solo dates like 2020’s Jackson Pollock-inspired Frame, to vibrant collaborations like 2021’s After Glow with Bert Joris.

One of the Maestro’s most obscure, psychedelic and dark-tinged soundtracks. Still unpublished in its entirety, the score is the manifesto of the Morricone Segreto series, featuring tonal experiments, timbric intuitions, enigmatic synths, obsessive lullabies, tribal drum beats and an overall compositional complexity showing the unrivaled genius of Ennio Morricone. Originally composed for Vittorio De Sisti’s Quando l’Amore è Sensualità, the music masterfully mirrors the bloody and lustful bourgeois hypocrisy portrayed in the cult film, thanks to a striking contrast between haunting primitive sounds (representing the male fury) and uplifting, crystalline and ethereal elements (symbolising the feminine innocence). The score features “Vie-Ni”, one of the most loved cuts from CAM Sugar “Morricone Segreto” collection, next to compositions featuring the whimsical and ethereal vocals by Edda Dell’Orso and furious psych-prog numbers embodying the most ‘segreto’ side of the Maestro.

The combination of tenor saxophone and trumpet has a long tradition in jazz. In order to explore the sound of these two instruments as pure as possible, “harmonic accompaniment” by piano or guitar is dispensed with in this instrumentation. The sound is reduced to the four voices of trumpet, saxophone, double bass, drums and offers a special charm and open sound due to its simplicity. The compositions are largely written by Nösig and Erian and reflect the approach to the improvised music of the two, which combines not only the origin from Carinthia, but also the joint years of study in Holland. The stylistics range from free improvisation and bop to folkloristically inspired pieces and rubato parts.

The Elvis On Tour Box Set includes six audio discs (featuring previously unreleased Elvis concerts and studio rehearsals) and the Blu-ray edition of the MGM film “Elvis On Tour” from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, which won Best Documentary at the 30th Golden Globes Awards in 1973 and was the last feature film featuring Elvis Presley to be released during the artist’s lifetime.
RCA/Legacy’s Elvis On Tour box set was produced by Ernst Mikael Jørgensen and mixed by Grammy Award®-winning Memphis producer Matt Ross-Spang. The original recordings were made by Felton Jarvis and Al Pachucki.
