This movement spread to other cities around the US and around the world. The Grateful Dead were at the cultural epicenter of the scene at Haight-Ashbury and the Summer of Love. The Grateful Dead battled the elements in July 1989, enduring drenching rains and stifling humidity during back-to-back shows at Robert F. Kennedy Stadium in the nation’s capital. In spite of the bleak weather, the band thrilled the massive crowds both nights with triumphant performances that rank among the very best of a busy year that included 74 shows and the release of the group’s final studio album, BUILT TO LAST.

ROBERT F. KENNEDY STADIUM, WASHINGTON, D.C., JULY 12 & 13, 1989 includes two previously unreleased concerts taken from the band’s master 24-track analog recordings, which have been mixed by Jeffrey Norman at TRI Studios and mastered in HDCD by David Glasser. The collection’s colorful slip case features original artwork by Justin Helton and a perfect-bound book with in-depth liner notes written by Dean Budnick, editor-in-chief of Relix magazine. The set will also be available as a digital download in Apple Lossless and FLAC 192/24.

During the Grateful Dead’s legendary 30-year run, the band often visited its northern neighbours in Portland, Seattle, and less-than-often Vancouver. Even so, official live recordings from those cities are something of a rarity. Pacific Northwest ’73-’74: Believe It If You Need It highlights some of the best performances from Grateful Dead’s time in the northwest. The concerts in the set include: P.N.E. Coliseum, Vancouver, B.C. (6/22/73); Portland Memorial Coliseum, Portland, OR (6/24/73); P.N.E. Coliseum, Vancouver, Canada (5/17/74); Portland Memorial Coliseum, Portland, OR (5/19/74); and Hec Edmundson Pavilion, University of Washington, Seattle, WA (5/21/74). During the period when the shows were recorded, the Grateful Dead included: Jerry Garcia, Donna Jean Godchaux, Keith Godchaux, Bill Kreutzmann, Phil Lesh and Bob Weir. The recordings of the 1973 shows were made just a few months before the band released its sixth studio album, Wake of the Flood, which was its first without founding member Ron “Pigpen” McKernan, who died in March 1973, and the first on their new Grateful Dead Records label. The 1974 shows were recorded just a few weeks before the band released its seventh studio album, From The Mars Hotel. Each show was mastered in 24bit high-resolution audio from the original master tapes by Jeffrey Norman at Mockingbird Mastering. The transfers from the masters were transferred and restored by Plangent Processes, further ensuring that this is the best, most authentic that these shows have ever sounded.

Gregg Allman is one of the most acclaimed and beloved icons in rock and roll history. As a founding member of the legendary Allman Brothers Band and in his own storied solo career, Allman has long been a gifted natural interpreter of the blues, his soulful and distinctive voice one of the defining sounds in the history of American music.

At the 54thAnnual Grammy Awards in 2012, the Allman Brothers Band was honored with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award, in part a celebration of the 40th anniversary of the group’s seminal album Eat a Peach. Gregg himself, inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1995, was also nominated for Best Blues Album for his acclaimed first solo record in thirteen years, Low Country Blues.

Allman’s critically acclaimed tell-all memoir, My Cross To Bear, was a New York Times bestseller for many weeks and is now available in both hardcover and paperback. The book focuses on his journey as a struggling artist through the formation of the Allman Brothers Band and their ultimate explosion on the music scene, informed by the hindsight of Allman today, the survivor of unimaginable loss, alcohol and drug addictions as well as a recent liver transplant.

With the Allman Brothers wrapping up their storied forty-five year career last October, Allman is showing no signs of slowing down. In August, Rounder Records will release Gregg Allman Live: Back to Macon, GA, a stellar live Blu-ray/CD package that captures Allman and his eight-piece solo band in a high-energy performance. This emotive show was recorded in January, 2014 at the venerable Grand Opera House in Macon, GA, the Middle Georgia town where it all began for the Allman Brothers Band.

Gregg Allman Live: Back to Macon, GA features sixteen tracks, made up of a nicely-varied selection of songs from the ABB catalog, (“Statesboro Blues,” “Melissa,” “Whipping Post”) tunes from Allman’s solo albums, (“Queen of Hearts,” “I’m No Angel”) and several dynamic cover songs. The Blu-ray will include two bonus tracks, as well as special interview segments.

In November, 2014, Allman received the “Living Legend” award from Classic Rock magazine, and recently was the guest of honor at the 67th annual BMI/NAB Dinner.  An active spokesman for the “Tune In to Hep-C” campaign, Allman has a full slate of shows scheduled for this summer, including a number of co-headlining dates with the Doobie Brothers. He is currently making plans for a new solo record.

In a career of myriad highlights ‘Nightclubbing’ remains the high water mark of Grace Jones’s imperial years with Island Records. It is indisputably the album on which her musical legacy rests, and rightly considered one of the greatest albums of all time. A sophisticated mêlée of sound, blending post-punk cool with a hot Caribbean vibe and a catwalk Studio 54 sensibility, it’s a perfect example of artist and musicians working in complete accord. It contains the all-time Grace classics in ‘Pull Up To The Bumper’, ‘Walking In The Rain’, ‘Demolition Man’ (written by Sting) and of course the Bowie / Iggy Pop-penned title track. There is magic in its every groove

Guitarist Greg Skaff assembles a masterful trio with bassist Ron Carter and drummer Albert “Tootie” Health, two NEA Jazz Masters for this rewarding set. Well-known for his work with soul jazz legends and with groups based around the Hammond B-3 organ, this date is surprisingly Skaff’s first recording in the past 30+ years leading a guitar trio alone without piano or organ. It’s also special set for the legendary reunion of Carter and Heath who worked together with history making results in the early 60s on landmark recordings by pianist Bobby Timmons and by guitarist Wes Montgomery. But, they have collaborated only once since. Skaff takes full advantage of this moment delivering an album all three are immensely proud of.
