‘Politics of Living’ is Kodalines third studio album and sees the Irish rockers team up with some of the biggest producers and writer out there including Mac (‘Shape Of You’ by Ed Sheeran), pop guru Johnny Coffer (Rag’N’Bone Man, Beyonce), Jonas Jeberg (Dizzee Rascal, Kylie Minogue), Stephen Harris (Miles Kane, Kaiser Chiefs) as well as long-time collaborator Johnny McDaid (‘What About Us’ by Pink).

“It’s been a while since we released our second album”, says Steve Garrigan. “But we felt we needed to take the time to make sure this was the best album we could make! We are so happy with it and can’t wait for people to hear it!”

This will be the first collection of new music since 2015’s Coming Up For Air, which went Gold in the UK. The band’s debut album, ‘In A Perfect World’ has sold over a million copies worldwide and imprinted itself on the nation’s consciousness with selling well over a million singles.”

Over the course of a long career spanning free jazz and experimentalism, Anthony Braxton has continually questioned the systems by which music is notated, named and played. There is a warmth and humour to Van Cauwenberghe’s response to Braxton’s Ghost Trance Music that seems fully in keeping with the project’s radical, friendly openness.

Keith Jarrett, Charlie Haden & Paul Motian – Hamburg ’72 (Live) (1972/2014) [Official Digital Download 24bit/96kHz]

The Keith Jarrett Trio, playing live at NDR Funkhaus, Hamburg in July 1972. The trio with Haden and Motian was Jarrett’s first great band, his choice of players a masterstroke. Charlie and Paul hadn’t worked together until Jarrett brought them into each other’s orbit in 1966. With the bassist who had learned his craft in Ornette Coleman’s band, and the drummer from Bill Evans’s ground-breaking trio, Jarrett was able to explore the broadest scope of modern jazz, from poetic balladry to hard-swinging time-playing to ferocious and fiery free music. The improvisation heard in the Hamburg concert includes episodes with Keith on soprano sax and flute as well as piano, while Motian expands the role of percussion in the music, developing the supple, elastic, supremely unpredictable vocabulary that would subsequently become such a crucial part of both Jarrett’s groups and Paul’s own.

After Bremen/Lausanne, after The Köln Concert, after the epic Sun Bear Concerts, the next development in Jarrett’s solo concerts was the all-embracing music captured here. Two 1981 improvised concerts from Austria and Germany are featured, recorded respectively at the Festspielhaus Bregenz and the Herkulessaal Munich, venues noted for outstanding acoustics. While the Bregenz concert has hitherto been available as a single CD, this set marks the first appearance of the complete Munich performance on compact disc. The 3-album set includes extensive text booklet with liner notes by Keith Jarrett, an essay by Swiss critic Peter Rüedi, and poetry by Michael Krüger.

“The Bregenz/Munich concerts were Jarrett’s most brilliant live solo recordings to date; his level of inspiration is quite extraordinary, and the music covers a wider musical and emotional range than ever.”
– Jarrett biographer Ian Carr

Digitally remastered and expanded edition featuring nine bonus tracks (one of them previously unreleased). All In A Night’s Work was the ninth studio album by the funk and disco group KC And The Sunshine Band, which was produced by Harry Wayne Casey and Richard Finch. The album was released in 1982 on the Epic label. The album had a more commercial sound than their 1981 album The Painter, with highlights that include “(You Said) You’d Give Me Some More” and “Party With Your Body”, two of the most joyous 80’s dance confections imaginable. The former features an intro that is strikingly similar to the one featured on Patti LaBelle’s “New Attitude” a couple of years later, and the latter’s lyrics (“Jazzercise is the latest trend”) are sure to prompt a smile. The album also includes “Give It Up’, which charted in the UK but failed to make an impression stateside, at least until it was added to KC’s next album, KC 10, a couple of years later. This expanded edition also includes covers of Stevie Wonder’s “Uptight” and Sly Stone’s “Thank You”, but after revisiting the rhythm and groove of All In A Night’s Work, we hope Casey never stops wanting to be our Boogie Man.

Carl Maria von Weber’s achievements as a composer were considerable and influential, demonstrating new possibilities in opera and orchestration, particularly in the handling of wind instruments. His attractive, lyrical style is ideal for the making of arrangements, and the impressive and beautifully proportioned Flute Sonata is a virtuoso masterpiece, as is the operatic Grand Duo Concertant. There is a feeling of solemnity in the G minor Trio, an unusual work with an enigma at its heart: the song-like Schäfer’s Klage or ‘Shepherd’s lament’ – the origins of which remain a source of conjecture.

The combination of flute and guitar was a feature of early tango recordings – instruments central both to the genre and to the music of Astor Piazzolla. The composer’s quintessential Histoire du Tango charts the form’s evolution from its appearance in the barrios of Buenos Aires to its eventual assimilation by classical composers. The Six ‘Etudes tanguistiques for solo flute is Piazzolla’s only work for a melodic unaccompanied instrument. The remainder of the programme presents a sequence of arrangements by Vicente Coves and Kazunori Seo and includes some of Piazzolla’s most famous and beautiful compositions as well as preserving a historically important, previously unreleased recitation by Horacio Ferrer.

Ludwig van Beethoven stands as a giant in music history for his great symphonies, piano sonatas and string quartets, and the challenges of deafness later in life. This programme shows the younger Beethoven’s facility as a creator of light and entertaining chamber works as enjoyable to perform as they are to hear. Taking their cues from Mozart, the Duos build on sonata form and dance movements, the slightly later Serenade taking the shape of a genial 18th-century divertimento.

Special duet featuring Japanese vocalist Minako Yoshida and jazz/fusion guitarist Kazumi Watanabe. Kazumi Watanabe has for the past 20 years been one of the top guitarists in fusion, a rock-oriented player whose furious power does not mask a creative imagination. Watanabe studied guitar at Tokyo’s Yamaha Music School and he was a recording artist while still a teenager. In 1979, he formed the group Kylyn and, in 1983, he put together the Mobo band. Several of his recordings have been made available by Gramavision and they show that he ranks up with Al DiMeola (when he is electrified) and Scott Henderson among the pacesetters in the idiom.

Watanabe was invited in 2011 by the New York club Iridium to play there as part of the ‘Legendary Jazz Fusion Guitarists’ series. Watanabe began a search for younger bassist and drummer based in the US who would bring fresh ideas and energy, and chose Janek Gwizdala, originally from England, and Obed Calvaire who’s played with Wynton Marsalis, Mike Stern and the Clayton Brothers, among others.
