Not standard piano trio, this group features unique percussion with lyrical bass and piano arrangements of originals and standards. Pianist Leslie Pintchik and bassist Scott Hardy have a musical partnership that spans two decades, and together they have built a library of rich original material. On So Glad to Be Here, Leslie and Scott are joined by percussionist Satoshi Takeishi, whose highly unusual kit (which includes hand drums, bells, cymbals, etc.) adds a dramatic array of colors to the music. The Music-Warmth, humor and mystery flavor this mix of original compositions and jazz standards, in a recording that features rich group interplay and lean textures.

Leslie Pintchik – Quartets (2007) MCH SACD ISO + Hi-Res FLAC

In the follow-up to her debut trio recording, “So Glad To Be Here”, pianist and composer Leslie Pintchik returns on her second SACD “Quartets” with two different quartets. The powerful band-mates from her debut album return – Scott Hardy on bass and Satoshi Takeishi on percussion. Added to the mix on the new release are the superb – and deservedly acclaimed – saxophonist Steve Wilson, as well as the exceptional drummer Mark Dodge. The project, which once again features Pintchik’s strong original compositions, as well as three unusual arrangements of well-known standards, packs a rich array of feeling into 56 minutes. All the extraordinary color and nuances of the two different quartets are captured beautifully using Sony’s Direct Stream Digital (DSD) technology. “Quartets” is released as a multichannel Hybrid SACD, featuring a 5.0 surround sound mix, along with the standard stereo mix.

Lee Morgan – The Sidewinder (1964) [Analogue Productions 2010] SACD ISO + Hi-Res FLAC

Lee Morgan – The Sidewinder (1964) [Analogue Productions 2010]
PS3 Rip | SACD ISO | DSD64 2.0 > 1-bit/2.8224 MHz | 51:01 minutes | Scans included | 2,13 GB
or FLAC(converted with foobar2000 to tracks) 24bit/88,2 kHz | Scans included | 0.98 GB

Carried by its almost impossibly infectious eponymous opening track, The Sidewinder helped foreshadow the sounds of boogaloo and soul-jazz with its healthy R&B influence and Latin tinge. While the rest of the album retreats to a more conventional hard bop sound, Morgan’s compositions are forward-thinking and universally solid. Only 25 at the time of its release, Morgan was accomplished (and perhaps cocky) enough to speak of mentoring the great Joe Henderson, who at 26 was just beginning to play dates with Blue Note after getting out of the military. Henderson makes a major contribution to the album, especially on “Totem Pole,” where his solos showed off his singular style, threatening to upstage Morgan, who is also fairly impressive here. Barry Harris, Bob Cranshaw, and Billy Higgins are all in good form throughout the album as well, and the group works together seamlessly to create an album that crackles with energy while maintaining a stylish flow.

This date was one of trumpeter Lee Morgan’s more obscure Blue Note sessions, but fortunately, it has been reissued on SACD. Matched with altoist Jackie McLean, pianist Bobby Timmons, bassist Paul Chambers, and drummer Art Blakey, Morgan interprets two of Cal Massey’s compositions, McLean’s “Midtown Blues” and his own blues “The Lion and the Wolf.” The music is essentially hard bop with a strong dose of soul; the very distinctive styles of the principals are the main reasons to acquire this enjoyable music.

Ocean represents something of a re-centering for Lady Antebellum. Arriving in November 2019, a few months after the conclusion of their brief Our Kind of Vegas residency, Ocean finds the trio recording with a new label, and a new producer, Dann Huff, who has been on a hot country streak since helming some of Taylor Swift’s Red in 2012. The group may have departed Capitol Nashville for Big Machine, but Ocean sounds like the group returning to the kind of warm, soft-focus country-pop that established them as hitmakers ten years earlier. Lady Antebellum don’t deny they’re a decade older anywhere on Ocean. The album is filled with songs about enduring love, both romantic and familial. It’s telling that “What I’m Leaving For” — a ballad about the heartache of leaving a loving home — was among the songs that teased the album: its unabashed sentiment is the keystone of Ocean, plus the trio’s revival of their close-knit soft-rock harmonies. Compared to the subdued glitz of Heart Break, their modern-minded 2017 collaboration with busbee, Ocean feels reserved and cautious, but it also feels soothing and welcoming. The whole thing rolls so smoothly, it’s easy not to realize that the lightly grooving “Pictures” is a song of heartbreak, but that’s the intent of Lady Antebellum with their seventh album: They mean to offer comfort, and that’s precisely what Ocean delivers. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

Just a few months after releasing their latest album ‘Ocean’, Lady Antebellum have released a new five-track EP that strips down some of those album tracks.

The ‘Live: In the Round EP’ sees the trio – made up of Charles Kelley, Hillary Scott and Dave Haywood – re-create five of the songs from their recent album release ‘Ocean’ in one take at Nashville’s Skyways Studios.

Speaking about the opportunity, Kelley said that the group loved being able to strip away parts of the songs and bring a much more intimate feel to them, while also saying how refreshing it was to go down that route in the studio once more.

The album was written and recorded primarily in Florida and California, due to the group feeling creatively stifled in Nashville.

Lady A are returning to their 2012 Christmas project On This Winter’s Night, and adding four new tracks to the album for this holiday season.

“When I think back to that original [album], we didn’t have children yet,” the group’s Dave Haywood told a group of reporters, including Sounds Like Nashville. “We wrote [‘Christmas Through Your Eyes’] with just the three of us, which was really the way we started as a band, so that was a special moment and something that only could have happened at this point in time in our lives and our careers.”

A Dutch R&B/pop group that performs original songs as well as covers of R&B/soul hits, Ladies of Soul were formed by Trijntje Oosterhuis, Candy Dulfer, Glennis Grace, Berget Lewis, and Edsilia Rombley, who have known each other since childhood. They first got together for a series of Whitney Houston tribute concerts after the R&B diva’s death in 2012. The shows were so successful that the quintet organized an arena show for Valentine’s Day 2014, which sold out, resulting in a second sold-out show scheduled for the day before. Their resulting album, Live at the Ziggo Dome 2014, hit number two on the Dutch album chart, and the following year Live at the Ziggo Dome 2015 peaked at number three. The Ladies performed in Belgium later in 2015, with another Ziggo Dome concert planned for 2016.

Nashville newcomer Laci Kaye Booth will release her self-titled debut collection. With her deeply personal and heartfelt lyrics, Booth’s debut collection shows all the facets of herself as she blends her raw and velvet-like sound with the echoes of her Country influences. The Texas native has already made a name for herself and grown a dedicated fanbase as a season favorite competing on Season 17 of American Idol and after placing in the Top 5, Booth took the leap and moved to Nashville to fully immerse herself in writing and Country music. Her unique “dreamy Country” sound is exactly what drew multiple record labels around town to the young artist likening her to the Lana Del Rey of Country. However, after meeting with Scott Borchetta and Jimmy Harnen of Big Machine Label Group, she knew she found her label home with them, 19 Recordings and her producer Dann Huff. Through word of mouth in the Nashville songwriting community she quickly proved herself and became a sought after artist to work with. With the release of this collection, she will soon be an identifiable voice in Country music – one that makes you turn the volume all the way up, because you’ve simply never heard anything like her before. Laci will be touring and releasing a song to country radio in the Fall of 2021.
