Handel Variations is a collection of Stadtfeld’s very own favorite works by Handel, all newly arranged for and played on the piano. Stadtfeld himself says “I must confess that I find it hard to listen to a whole Handel opera or oratorio in large numbers. Nevertheless, I am convinced that individual “taken out” arias can unfold their effect and aura without their original emotional background. Maybe especially on the piano, which basically remains an abstract instrument.” The album contains Handel’s most famous melodies and hit arias such as “Lascia ch’io pianga” and “Ombra mai fu” as well as the famous “Sarabande” in new and unique piano versions and many more beautiful melodies.

German pianist Martin Stadtfeld recorded a special Christmas album featuring well-known Christmas melodies such as “Stille Nacht” (Silent night), “In the bleak midwinter” and “Maria durch ein Dornwald ging” and “Vom Himmel hoch” which are newly arranged by Martin Stadtfeld himself for “Christmas Piano”. In addition, Stadtfeld contributed to “Christmas Piano” his own pieces, especially the eleven-part contemplative piano cycle “Christmas Time”, two variations after Praetorius’ “Es ist ein Ros’ entsprungen” and two intermezzi after Praetorius’ “Vom Himmel hoch”. Already at the end of 2020, when no concerts could take place due to the pandemic, Stadtfeld had sent short musical Advent greetings to his audience via social media channels to cheer them up. The experience of this sharing and the positive response to his music gave him the idea for his new album. Right at the beginning, Stadtfeld’s “Christmas Time” sounds, consisting of 11 atmospheric miniatures. Titles like “Happy Time”, “Wish List” or “Anticipation” conjure up images of joyful anticipation and shining children’s eyes during Christmas times. Just as in his own piano cycle, Martin Stadtfeld let’s listeners participate in his Christmas imagination in his arrangements of traditional carols and pieces by classical composers. “Christmas Piano” also includes “Canonische Veränderungen über Vom Himmel hoch” (Canonical Changes on High Heaven) by Johann Sebastian Bach arranged for piano and trumpet, in which Martin Stadtfeld’s brother Stephan also makes a guest appearance on the trumpet.

Carl Reinecke’s melodic gift, mastery of counterpoint, and idiomatic command of chamber repertoire, in particular, exemplify why he was acclaimed as one of the great representatives of German High Romanticism. His Cello Sonatas were composed over four decades. The First teems with freshness and a Schumannesque lyricism, while the Second is a more experimental work, with a notably quizzical slow movement. Virtuosity, solemnity and caprice are features of the Third Sonata, while the Three Pieces, Op. 146 offer an enticing contrast of songfulness and dance. Austrian cellist Martin Rummel is not only the last pupil of the legendary William Pleeth, but with the release of nearly 50 albums, one of the most distinguished cellists of his generation. He continually gains worldwide praise for his recordings of previously undiscovered music. First Prize winner of the prestigious Concours de Geneve in 2001, Roland Kruger has performed in venues such as the Concertgebouw, Amsterdam, the Palais des Beaux-Arts, Brussels, and the Kolner Philharmonie festival. As a soloist, he has worked with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, the Orchestre National de Belgique and the NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover, among others.

David Popper was one of the most important cellists of the 19th century and is remembered for the etudes of his High School of Cello Playing. Popper premiered chamber works by Brahms and championed Schumann’s Cello Concerto, and his own four concertos span an illustrious 50-year career. Each shares a lyrical Romantic spirit: the playful First Concerto, an enjoyable prelude to the more dramatic and virtuosic Second, and the single-movement Third, a masterpiece in melodic compactness. The Fourth Concerto was dedicated to ‘my great colleague’ Alfredo Piatti and is recorded here in its version with piano.

Martin Rude (Sun River) & Jakob Skøtt (Causa Sui) team up for a genre-defying record that was recorded during an exceptional session on March 3rd 2020. Martin brought his Double Bass, Acoustic & Baritone guitar into the studio of Causa Sui, where Jakob’s drums were already miked & prepped by soundwiz Jonas Munk, freshly tuned from the new Causa Sui recordings. The music they played ranges from sprawled out pre-fusion electric jazz to psychedelic folk ragas. After the sessions, the hours of free floating music was edited & dubbed by Jakob Skøtt into shorter cohesive segments, but maintaining the improvised vibe of these first takes.

The collaboration between Danish musicians Martin Rude and Jakob Skøtt has proven to be most fruitful. The mixture of Rude’s open guitar tunings and double bass with Skøtt’s fluid drumming and ethereal synths and electronics gave their debut LP The Discipline of Assent an epic, galactic jazz western feel. A soundtrack to some retro-futuristic Leone film that only exists in the strangest of fever dreams. It truly was one of the more exciting musical trips I’d taken this year.

The large baroque organ of the Jakobikirche in Stralsund, whose case we still see today, was built in 1741 by Christian Gottlieb Richter From Stettin. FLAC (tracks) 24 bit/48 kHz | Time – 34:45 minutes | 446 MB | Genre: Alternative Rock, Female Vocal

A pivotal record for contemporary times; bright, free, adamant, optimistic. Brain Worms is RVG’s fullest, most pristine album yet.

All throughout Brain Worms, it’s apparent that this is a band in very fine form. Album opener ‘Common Ground’ sets the tone for what’s to come; a shiny, thrilling, punch of an album, with all the beloved RVG hallmarks. Vager’s voice is unfiltered and commanding as ever when delivering her clever, not-quite-ironic lyrics. Here, though, those lyrics feel so much less resigned to yearning, and so much more defiant and joyous.

‘Tambourine’ is the only Covid song Vager wrote when “trying not to write Covid songs”, and it’s a painfully honest portrait of grieving mid-isolation. ‘Brain Worms’ tells the all-too-familiar story of a person falling down the internet rabbit hole and finding comfort in conspiracies. ‘Nothing Really Changes’ is a keys-heavy new wave-ish thing, while closer ‘Tropic of Cancer’ sparkles with Vager’s self-assured new manifesto: I know what I’m like, and I know how I get. If you think I’m strange, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet.

The disc also presents a selection of the Virtuosic Studies by Albert Sammons, the violinist who made benchmark recordings of Elgar’s Violin Sonata and Concerto and who made a highly significant contribution to British violin-playing in the early years of the twentieth century. These are being recorded here for the first time.
