An intense and highly sought-after cellist on the Hungarian classical, contemporary, and improvisation scenes, for his first solo disc Tamás Zétényi has selected some of the most important solo string instrument pieces of the twentieth century: this album features solo sonatas by Kodály and Ligeti. In three works by two Hungarian composers, we can trace how the solo string genre, founded by Bach, was suddenly revived in the twentieth century. Kodály’s grandiose cello sonata intones with the intimacy of a soliloquy, deploying folk-music inspiration and the new harmonic world of Impressionism alongside the Bachian prototypes.
Kodály was undoubtedly an influence on Ligeti, who however in his own cello sonata followed leaner structural principles and Bartókian models. Ligeti’s late work, the viola sonata, which summarizes his oeuvre and forges an alloy of new tonality and folk melodies of the Carpathian Basin, is here heard in Tamás Zétényi’s own transcription, released here with the consent and approval of Vera Ligeti, the composer’s widow and heir.

Tadataka Unno (海野 雅威, Unno Tadataka; born 15 August 1980) is a Japanese jazz pianist.
Tadataka Unno was born in Tokyo. He started playing jazz at age 9 and attended the Tokyo University of the Arts. Unno began his career by joining the trio of Japanese jazz musician Yoshio Suzuki and played professionally in Japan for the next 10 years. In 2008, Unno moved to New York City and lived in Harlem. In 2010, Unno was recommended to play at the Jazz Rising Stars Program of Ravinia Festival by Nathan Davis and Curtis Fuller. He also worked for two years with jazz trumpeter Roy Hargrove and is currently a member of the Jimmy Cobb Trio, Clifton Anderson quartet, and John Pizzarelli Trio.
Unno has performed at the Kennedy Center, Blue Note Jazz Club, and Village Vanguard. He has released six jazz albums including Journeyer, which was recorded with American musicians Hassan J.J. Shakur and Jerome Jennings.

Released in 1966, Drums Unlimited remains a unique listening experience even now, but it’s a tremendous opportunity to hear just how amazing Roach could be when he was sitting behind his kit. The six-track album alternates between a trio of solo performances by Roach – “The Drum Also Waltzes,” the title track, and “For Big Sid” – and a trio of songs which find him playing alongside trumpeter Freddie Bubbard, alto saxophonist Roland Alexander, pianist Ronnie Matthews, and bassist Jymie Merritt. The tracks in the latter category, by the way, are “Nommo,” “St. Louis Blues,” and “In the Red (A Christmas Carol),” and it should also be noted that “St. Louis Blues” also features some sweet soprano sax from Roland Alexander.
