Twyn’s debut album, Lyght Years, takes the listener on a journey to a futuristic world with dance-influenced melodies set against a nostalgic soundscape. It’s music you can dance to but also chill to, complete with catchy hooks that beg to get stuck in your head.
After releasing the EP Eudaemonia in 2020, Jason Matthews and Aaron Glueckauf, the duo behind Tywn, continued fine-tuning their sound for their new album, which is set to release on May 5 via Brooklyn-based label La Reserve Records.
Matthews and Glueckauf wrote, played, mixed, and produced the record over the course of two years, putting all their effort into creating something that feels intentional.

Born near the shores of Lake Erie in the industrial town of Cleveland, Ohio, Ken Margolis is an accomplished songwriter, keyboardist and vocalist. He learned to play the piano by ear and was drawn to playing with other budding musicians during the revolution of popular music that occurred during the 60’s and 70’s. Throughout the early years in Cleveland, he played keyboards with the power-pop group, The Choir and was a contemporary with many of the up-and-coming musicians in the early stages of their careers including Wally Bryson, Joe Walsh, Joe Vitale, Eric Carmen – like them he thrived in the creativity of that musical renaissance. In later years, he shared the stage with many luminaries such as the Who, Herman’s Hermits, Bo Diddley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bobby Womack and others.

Carrying on a widely varied career over several decades, it’s through membership in several long-lived trios where Seattle drummer John Bishop’s musical voice is probably most apparent. With New York pianist Hal Galper’s acclaimed “rubato” trio over the last 15 years, the band Scenes with guitarist John Stowell for another 20, or the piano trio New Stories which started in the mid-80s, each provided a committed vision with a focus on the collective narrative. With that, it’s no surprise that Bishop would deliver another trio as the first album under his own name in 15 years. First meeting pianist Bram Weijters and bassist Piet Verbist in Belgium in 2010 through a quartet with trumpeter Chad McCullough, they went on to do yearly tours, performing 100+ concerts, and releasing 3 albums over its 8 years. Continuing yearly trips to Antwerp following the pandemic, the thought of recording a trio with Piet & Bram came in a flash of gratitude for their friendship, musicianship and the ongoing adventures that the first Antwerp visit inspired. Theirs is a sound evolved from mutual admiration and the joy of creation.
