Founded in 1528, the Ospedaletto was the youngest and smallest of the four famous Venetian orphanages that excelled in musical performance. Nicola Porpora worked there from 1743 to 1747, where he met the highly talented singer Angiola Moro, known as “Anzoletta”, for whom he created particularly demanding solo parts. The mezzo-soprano Josè Maria Lo Monaco has taken on these parts by Anzoletta and presents two virtuoso cantatas and a Salve Regina here, accompanied by Stile Galante under the direction of Stefano Aresi.

Joel Gisiger was born in São Paulo in 1968. And Master from the Federal University of Bahia (2017). He studied with Benito Soares Sanchez, Washington Barella and Lothar Koch. He graduated from the Mozarteum faculty, and received a scholarship to the Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic, where he studied for two years. He performed as the first guest oboe soloist of the Orquestra do Theatro Municipal de São Paulo in 1996. As a soloist, he performed in front of orchestras such as Osesp, Teatro Municipal de São Paulo, Ribeirão Preto and others. He joined Osesp as first solo oboe in 1988. She developed pedagogical activities at EMESP, Baccarelli Institute, Cantareira colleges, Tatuí Conservatory. He currently teaches at the Escola Municipal de Música de São Paulo and at the OSESP Academy.

BLOODY JACK from composer Michael Matthews is a cycle of 14 songs based on selected poems from Dennis Cooley’s 1984 collection by the same name. These poems draw upon the chilling story of John Krafchenko, a Hungarian immigrant to Canada who became a notorious outlaw at the turn of the 20th century. The music was originally composed between 2015 and 2017, and revised in 2020. Matthews dedicates this work to pianist Laura Loewen and vocalist Dawn Bruch, both of whom bring this release and its haunting harmonies to life.
